Obituary
Kenneth Jack Mickelson passed away peacefully on November 30, 2013. He was born to recent Norwegian immigrants, Christian and Martha, on July 20, 1924. He was a life long resident of West Seattle having graduated from West Seattle High School in 1943. Shortly after graduating he married the love of his life Marian Ilene Johnston. She survives Kenneth after 69 years of marriage. Kenneth originally worked as a laborer in several local businesses to support his wife and three young children. He was trained as a bookkeeper while spending two years in a Tuberculosis Sanitarium. His former employer Herr Lumber hired him back in that capacity. He eventually was entrusted with their home building division and supervised the construction of many homes in the greater Seattle area until he retired in 1978.
Kenneth and Marian enjoyed dancing and travel, having taken several trips to Europe. His main joy in life was his family. His retirement years centered on family activities and visits. His latest joy was his four great-grandchildren.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Marian, his sons Gary (Barbara), Richard (Kathleen), and daughter Linda Wingle (Daniel), grandchildren John (Lara), Debbie (John), Kelly (Daniel), Kristian (Hayley), and great-grandchildren, Jackson, Blake, Erik, and Kristina. He is also survived by his two brothers Earl and Milton (Mike).
Memorial services will be held on Saturday December 7, 2013 at Bonney-Watson Funeral Home, 1732 Broadway, Seattle. A viewing will take place at 1:00pm with the service commencing at 2:00pm. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Lung Association, 822 John St. Seattle, WA 98109.
