Obituary
Kenneth Lee Swenson
Ken was born September 26, 1945 in Seattle to Linea and Swen, both natives of Sweden. Ken was a classically trained pianist and prodigy, beginning his lessons at age five. At age 10 he began performing locally throughout the Scandinavian community and Seattle. At one point he was co-host of a local weekly teens TV program. After graduating from UW, he continued his musical studies at a conservatory in Mexico City.
Ken had a long career in publishing and printing. He and Way Hamlin, his partner of 53 years, operated a printing business for the last 25 years of their careers. They both also concurrently worked for a cruise line for over 10 years. Consequently, they cruised a lot, completing 37 cruises, all around the world.
Ken had a strong personality and a quick sense of humor. He was very systematic. Everything was done a certain way, and everything had its place. He jokingly compared himself to the Monk character of the TV series. His co-workers at the cruise line loved to tease him by moving his pens, papers, etc. on his desk area.
Ken died July 18, 2018 of heart failure brought on by other medical problems.
Ken is survived by his partner, Wayman Hamlin; a cousin Kristina Larson (Richard Gemmell) and a sister Kadie Davis and her children. And two lovable two-year-old Dachshund sisters, Hildegarde and Gertrude. They miss him terribly. Cremation, no services.
Kenneth was such a nice person to me growing up. I have always thought of him and so very sad to hear this news. I remember he always had a warm smile.
