Obituary

Kenneth Martin Boas transitioned on October 20, 2018 in Seattle, Washington at the age of 93. Kenny was born April 22, 1925 in Seattle to Hilda Boas and Lazare Azarhi (aka Larry Lawrence). He graduated from Broadway High School and was a jazz pianist during Seattle’s earthshaking jazz scene. He was the only non-black member of the famed Savoy Boys and played in Bumps Blackwell’s senior band, among many. Kenny was retired from the University of Washington where he worked as a printer.

Kenny is survived by his wife of 60 years, Louise Boas, daughters Renee Boas and Sandra Boas-DuPree (Rick), his granddaughter Tia Gant who he raised, step children Jeannette Gant and Annie Hatch (Cleveland) and many grandchildren, cousins and extended family whom he adored.

A memorial will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11:00am, at Mt. Calvary Christian Center, 1412 23rd Ave, Seattle, Wa 98122. All are welcome to celebrate Kenny’s life. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Central Area Senior Center.
