Obituary
Kimiko Ishigami Juagpao, 89 of Seattle, WA died in the afternoon of October 24, 2020. Kimiko was the daughter of Taniki and Hatu Ishigami and the loving wife of Pascual Juagpao who passed away in 1991.
Kimiko was born in 1931 and grew up in Shizuoka, Japan with 6 siblings. Kimiko’s Father sold wholesale groceries to shops around Shizuoka after the war while her mother Hatu had success as a Kimono seamstress. Kimiko had fond memories of her childhood helping at home with the family garden.
Kimiko and Pascual met and married in Yokohama, Japan in 1954 and moved to Seattle shortly after. Pascual was certified as an American Seaman and worked as head chef on numerous American flagships from the mid 40’s to the mid 50’s until with Kimiko they settled in Seattle, WA with her sister, Toshiko and her husband Teddy. Kimiko, followed in the footsteps of her mother and also worked as a seamstress for many years.
In 2000 she and her sister moved in together to help each other after both their husbands had passed away. They did many things together and were well known around their neighborhood in the international district. Toshiko passed away in October 2018 and Kimiko missed her dearly. Her siblings would often call from Japan to talk and keep in touch. Kimiko had local friends in Seattle and would often invite them to lunch, sometimes bringing gifts for their children at Christmas. She loved singing, writing short poems, knitting and was very kind, generous and fun loving. She will be missed and fondly remembered.
I miss you Kimiko-San. You were like my Mother in Seattle. Love, Chieko
