LaVerne H. Seaburg

LaVerne H. Seaburg born October 17, 1926, “slipped the surly bonds of earth,” surrounded by his family on December 9, 2012.

A Passenger Service Agent with United Airlines for nearly forty years. Verne, as he was known by his friends, loved gardening, trains, baseball, his country and his family.

Verne lied about his age to join the U.S. Navy in WWII. Leaving his family home in North Platte, NE. He came to serve aboard the U.S.S. Bosque, a troop transport ship, assigned to the South Pacific during the war. He was one of the few Americans to observe the formal surrender of the Japanese from the deck of his ship on September 2, 1945 in Toyko Bay. He also watched atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll.

He met the love of his life at United Airlines when he found a Reservation Agent with the same name LaVerne. The LaVerne’s were married fifty-five years and have four children.

Preceded in death by his wife LaVerne in 2010, he is survived by his daughters Michele Seaburg and Kimberly Cooper, and sons Bruce and Harold Seaburg, son-in-law Richard Wakefield, daughter-in-laws, Shirley Seaburg and Marianne Seaburg. He will be missed by his grandchildren Ashley and Chelsey Seaburg, and Alexa, Patrick and Hayley Wakefield, and cousin Jerry Lee Seaburg.

Services will be held Thursday, December 13th at 1:00 p.m., at Washington Memorial Park and Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, dontations may be made to the WWII Memorial
