Obituary

Von DICKINSON

Von passed away December 10 after a short bout of pnuemonia, peacefully and surrounded by family – the way she always wanted it. She lived in Twin Lakes for 40 years with her loving husband Jim who passed away in 2000, and served as social director of the club for an extended time. Some believe her love affair with pearls, bright lipstick, and a well-made cocktail began then, but really, Von has always been a lady of glitz and glamour. Throughout her life, she was adamant about remaining independent and was steadfast in her beliefs much to many’s occasional annoyance. But, when she let you in, her love was strong and lasting, and her greatest joy was relishing in the wonderful family she had raised and the beautiful friends she made. She is survived by her three children, Jim, Pam, and Bruce, along with seven grandchildren. In her 83 years, Von danced her way through life and enjoyed each and every minute of it.

There will be a celebration for family and friend’s on December 21. For details, contact habulover@comcast.net. Donations to the American Cancer Society and Salvation Army would support a few of Von’s favorite charities.

Dear Bruce, Colin, and Cameron,

I hope it helps in some small way to know that people care and share your sorrow. Though I didn’t know Von well, she was always generous, vivacious, and larger than life. I know she loved her family and I hope that gives you some peace and something you can always treasure.

Take care.

To Bruce & Amy, Pam, John & Casey, Jimmy & family,

Von was not only the life of the party kinda gal, she was also an outstanding Nana! Who can love your own kids anymore than you or as much you can? Well I must say SHE did and that stands forefront in my mind and heart…all the sweaters knitted for the boys and the endless games and interaction with them. What a gift! Oh how we love our Nana!

There is a saying: When your dear ones depart, never their love, never their guidance, never their blessings, never the joys they have brought us. Vons love of life filled the room as well as her love for her children and grandchildren. May your love for Von find peace in your heart, Shari Peterson-McEnerney

We knew the Dickinson’s as neighbors since we moved into Twin Lakes in 1971. I notice Jean McDowell Smail had also written. Well,we’re the ones who bought Fran & Wally’s McDowell’s home and continue to feel so fortunate to have moved into such a caring neighborhood. Our daughters Patty & Betty remembered Bruce from FWHS.

To Pam and Family,

I remember your mom well. Your folks and mine danced many times at the club together, as well as their card games, and golf. I imagine that most of our moms and dads from Twin Lakes are now dancing, golfing and enjoying each others company, once again together in heaven. Much sympathy to you and your family in this time of your loss. Our memories of our parents will live long in our hearts and minds to pass on to generations to come and comfort us when we miss them most. My regards to you all.

My recollections of Von predate her move to Twin Lakes, back to when her family lived in Burien, Washington.

She was always a lady of incredible energy and vitality as she led her daughter’s Camp Fire group for three years yes, she actually put of with us for 3 years!. It was 3 years of amazing creativity as we learned to star in plays and skits, and put together a wonderful variety of art projects. If I checked the attic at my parents’ house, I believe I would still find 1 or 2 art projects that my mother saved from those years.

Von always had a smile on her face and a laugh on the tip of her tongue. She made those years memorable for those of us under her wing.

Jim, Pam and Bruce, my heartfelt condolences to each of you.
