Leatha Othella Scott Bailey 1938- 2024

Leatha Scott Bailey was born on September 2, 1938 in Hennessey, Oklahoma.  She was the eleventh child of Iola and Benjamin Scott Sr.   Leatha attended Paul Lawrence Dunbar School and graduated from Lacey High School in Lacey, Oklahoma.

Leatha was married to Stephen Russell Mayfield, Sr. and to this union three children were born in Indianapolis, Indiana

Leatha and her children relocated to Seattle, WA in the 1970’s where she began her career at Boeing until her retirement in 1995.  While working at Boeing, she met and married Eugene Bailey.  They were married for 18 years until his death in 1999. 

Leatha led a full and blessed life, some of her interests included, taking cruises, leading a walking group with the Sound Steps. Although she was no longer involved with the RV Club, she maintained long-term friendships and enjoyed spending time with them. Leatha worked with the Foster Care program; she provided respite to the foster parents as well as emergency foster care placement.  She provided foster care to many children for several years.  

Family was everything to Leatha, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed taking trips to visit family and attending family reunions. 

Leatha was called home from her labor to her reward on April 4, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Iola and Benjamin Soctt Sr, Stephen Mayfield Sr, Eugene Bailey, her brothers: Herman, Benjamin Jr., Calvin and John, and her sisters:  Katherine, Lewana, Ruth, Florine, Florence and Fern.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters LaDonna, Stephanie (Lionel), and son, Stephen Jr. (Nivea).  Grandchildren:  Jason, Brandon, Aubrianna, Suhei, and Isiah.  Great Grandchildren:  Brooklyn, Bailey, Briella, Jaiyanna, Brixton, and Bella, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
