Obituary

Leo L. Altenhofer Jr., beloved husband of Eileen V. Altenhofer, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2021 at the age of 84 in Normandy Park, WA. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Leo was born on January 12, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri to his parents Leo Sr. and Mildred Altenhofer. He attended University of Missouri and obtained a bachelor degree in engineering in Missouri, where he developed a passion for design and planes.

Leo was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a constant source of love and support for his wife of 61 years, and together they raised three children: Karl, Dale, and Lynn. Leo and Eileen were devoted grandparents to their grandchildren, Micah, Julia, Grace and Sarah. Leo was also a loving brother to his sister Muriel Jannusch (deceased), from Glendale MO.

Leo will always be remembered for his kind heart, soft spoken words of wisdom, and giving heart. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome and loved, and his positive impact on those around him will be deeply missed.

In addition to his family, Leo had a lifelong commitment to his faith and was an active member of Normandy Park United Church of Christ. He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to God, helping the church work through city regulations and his commitment to the men’s fellowship breakfast and the “pain in the neck group”.

He loved the outdoors and was excited to see all that Washington had to offer. Leo and Eileen moved out to Seattle after graduating from college. Leo enjoyed many ice hikes on Mt Rainier before his children came along. He also loved camping, was an Eagle Scout and a Scout Master to his boys scout troop. He loved traveling with his family and friends. He spent time after he retired helping with his many grandchildren and traveling around the world.

Leo worked for the Boeing Company his whole career. He started out making shipping crates for airplane parts and worked his way up to the Chief Engineer of Propulsion.

Leo’s legacy will live on through the memories and stories shared by those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will forever be cherished.

Eileen – though the years I’ve often had the thought “ I wonder how Leo Altenhoffer is doing.. Finally I dug around on the Internet and learned that he had passed. So sorry for not having kept up with you all. I do remember being in your wedding. He was a good friend and a kind man. Sorry for your loss.
