Leo McClung
June 13, 1960 - July 24, 2018
Obituary
Leo passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at the age of 58. He was born in June 1960 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Leo and Margaret McClung, who loved him dearly. He is survived by his sisters, Leigh (Ron Quarry), Kim (Steve Rockey), Margaret (Ralph Peragine), brother Keefe and nieces Eileen Beck (Matt), Shelan Stritzke (Dave), Paige Sandoval (Andrea), Margaret Rockey and nephew Keenan McClung (Alicia).
Leo grew up in Des Moines, WA. and loved living there. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, biking, golfing and being on the water. His favorite phrase, “anything worth doing is worth overdoing” perfectly describes his love of life, his great enjoyment of others, and his wicked, irreverent sense of humor. He loved stirring the pot, and like his father, he did it very well. Leo was also compassionate and empathetic, and delighted in helping others, whether it was driving 20 miles in a blinding snow storm to rescue his sister, or surprising his mother and her friends by washing all their cars while they played bridge. If you were looking for a hero, Leo was your man. Having experienced his own struggles, Leo could really connect with people who were also in pain in a way that was kind, respectful and yet humorous. He had the gift of blarney, and could talk his way out of (most) anything (or so his fortune cookie said!). He was known as “Fun Uncle Leo”, and was eagerly awaited at all family gatherings. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Our dearest wish is that he is united in heaven with his parents, the 2 people he cherished and admired the most.
The obituary describes Leo so well. Leo was a once in a lifetime friend.
Leo is a good friend he will be thourely missed I will think of him fondly always,we go way back,my prayers are for him and his family
Leo was a great friend. Incredibly funny yet equally fierce. I do hope he is with his loved ones as well as his buddies that passed before him. thinking of them all together laughing and joking is my idea of heaven.
Leo…always & forever a favorite!
Leo has been a good friend for so many years and I am honored I was part of his life. He would sometimes not be heard from for a while and then he would ride his bike into your yard and pick up right where he left off like it was yesterday. He was always full of amazing stories and could keep the party going. Today I know he is looking down on us and sending us a cheer. Love you my friend, Rest In Peace
Rest In Peace Leo!!!
I’m so sorry to see this and I’m saddened by it. I knew Leo in the early to mid 1990’s. I’ll have to say this, Leo was very likable and funny. He could tell a story like nobody else could and always seemed to be a very happy person. I lost contact with him long ago, but he left an everlasting impression. To his family, I send my condolences. Rest easy Leo.
To Leo’s family: I had a vivid dream last night. Leo asked how I was doing, I told him Im a father now. He was wearing this blue shirt and we were near the Des Moines marina where we shared many memories. He was a father figure to me for a short time 1997-2002. I was hurt to find this page but also found some peace that he would reach out. Condolences from our family. Tyler L
