Leona Mae Miller
Beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Passed away peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2006 surrounded by family. Born on November 11, 1931, in Renton WA to Agnes Benson and William Lee. A graduate of Renton High School, Leona met the love of her life, Herb Miller, her first day of college at Washington State College. Two years later in 1952, they married. Herb and Leona made their home in Des Moines, WA where they raised their four children. Active in Eastern Star, she served as Grand Marshall in 1980. Leona traveled from New Zealand to Scotland and all around the U.S. for personal pleasure as well as in concert with her duties in Eastern Star. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Herb, daughters Becky Dave Leaf and Gail Mike Patterson, sons Herb Paula Miller and Jeff Carol Miller, 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons. She was a ”Super” Mom to all of us. A celebration of life will be held Friday, July 14, 2006 at 3:00 PM at the Des Moines United Methodist Church, 22225 9th Ave. So, in Des Moines. The family asks that memorial donations be made in Leona’s name to your favorite youth scholarship program, particularly nursing. Please sign the online memorial guestbook at www.bonneywatson.com.
Please accept our heartfelt sympathy. We had some great times together in New mexico and they will not be forgotten.
Dear Herb, Becky, Gail, Herb and Jeff;
We are so very sorry to hear of Leona’s passing, but we know she is now lighting up the heavens with her sunny smile. We still remember the nice visit we had with your family almost 37 or so years ago, when you were relocating to New Mexico. We were newly married and living in our first home – a mobile home, in Tucson Arizona. Leona was a very special person. Wherever she went the sun seemed to shine. That’s pretty good for the Northwest!! I know her passing is leaving a large hole in all of your lives, but take good care of each other and share your memories with each other. She lives on in all of you. Jim and Jann Daunheimer
Leona has always been in my heart and will always be there.
Dear Herb, Becky, Gail, Jeff and Herb,
Bill and I are so very sorry to hear about Leona passing away. She made such a difference in so many lives. And while nothing can make this time any easier for you, maybe it will help to know that while we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the gifts we never would have known if we hadn’t known such a wonderful person. Leona will live deep in our hearts forever. Love, Joyce and Bill Dizmang
I recognized Leona as someone special the first time I met her. She remained so all of her life. We will truly miss such a great Lady and Friend.
Growing up two houses down from the “Miller” gang in Des Moines was a childhood filled with so many memories. We had connecting back yards and during the summer there was more laughter and games that could be imagined. We shared camp fires at Walbergs, swimming parties at our house, dogs, cats, tennis, go-carts, oh so many wonderful times! We all welcomed each families return from vacations with petunias in the toilet, balloons in the bathtub, trailers in the living room..oh how we laughed…we share these memories now in our hearts and know that Leona is smiling down on us as we remember those wonderful times. God bless you Leona!
I remember being one of Leona’s flower girls in her wedding and being in awe of her beauty. I used to babysit the 4 children and know that all of you must be feeling her loss terribly. It is very difficult to lose a mother. My heart goes out to Herb, the children and grandchildren. Leslie Gray
We were so sorry to hear of hear of Leona’s passing. She was a warm and loving person, a wondeful mother and wife. May God be with all of you in your sorrow.
She was a wonderful, kind and gentle lady and she will be missed by all who knew her.
Leona enriched the lives of friends and family with her positive attitude and helpful spirit. Preparation for “Celebration of Leona’s Life” brought many of us together to recall the love, inspiration, humor and enjoyment that she contributed. While Leona’s presence will be missed, our memories live on.
