Obituary

Le Gehring, 90, entered heaven on May 23, 2018. Mass of Christian Burial will be June 1, 12 noon at St. Bernadette’s in Burien 

Leonhard George Gehring was born March 8, 1928 in Georgetown, WA the first born son to Leonhard and Lorraine (Stegriy) Gehring. He passed away May 23, 2018 in Federal Way, WA. 

Le grew up in south Seattle, White Center and Burien.  He graduated from Highline High School in 1946. 

Even as a young man, Le loved the out of doors.  When he was trapping, hunting, fishing or gold mining, he was the happiest.  He enjoyed sharing those times with his brothers, Bill and Harold and his cousins, the Stegriy boys.  

 

Dad was drafted into the US Army in November 1950 and served in Korea War for 2 years. Upon his muster out, he returned to Seattle and married Maynita A. Irvine on November 29, 1952.  THE girl he’d met prior to his shipping out to Korea.  Their love grew through the many letters written while he was serving overseas.  

 

Together they raised 4 children Ann, Len, Steve and Dave.  Dad shared his love of the outdoors first with Nita and then with their children.    

 

He was a construction truck driver with Teamsters Local 174 for over 30 years.

 

He was a founding member of the Seattle Rumpbumpers Jeep Club, a ham radio operator K7TVI, and a member of the North Cascades Miners Association.

 

He was proceeded in death by his parents Leonhard and Lorraine, his wife of 49 years, Nita and his brother Bill. He is survived by his brother, Harold. Also his 4 children and their spouses, 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and in’laws. 

 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on June 1st, 12 noon at St. Bernadette’s in Burien, with graveside services following at Gethsemane cemetery in Federal Way.  

 

Special thanks to Maricel and Dennis of the Medina Adult Family Home.  We could not have asked for a more loving, caring home where he lived his last few years.
