Linda Jean Dougherty
1946-2015
She was our big sister, aunt and friend, and this earth will not be the same without her.
She enjoyed life to the fullest and liked life best when she could persuade the people she cared about to join her on an adventure. As one of the original “baby boomers” she was born in 1946 in Los Angeles, California, the first grandchild of maternal grandparents Sophie and John Cronk. California was her home until 1978, when she packed up her car and moved to Washington, where she began her career with the King County Parks Department. After many years with the Parks Department, she began working for King County Metropolitan District.
She loved all kinds of art and spent a number of years volunteering for Burien Art Association. She was also an avid genealogist, and was able to link up with distant relatives through the research that she and her sisters did.
After suffering a stroke in 2013, and recently being diagnosed with cancer, Linda passed away peacefully at home, with her family, July 7, 2015.
She will be buried in California beside her mother and father, Virginia & William Dougherty.
Donations may be made to local cat shelter, local food bank, or Burien Arts Association.
I am very sorry to hear of Linda’s passing. My heart goes out to her family and many many friends. She was much loved and will be sorely missed.
I worked with Linda at King County and loved her sense of humor and grand laugh. She was a fabulous manager! Truly cared about people.

You will truly be missed Linda but you are in a much better place and no longer in pain. I also know that the temperature of the ocean in Heaven has got to be a lot warmer than in Waldport when you go jump those waves. You left us way too soon, but will live on forever in our memories. Linda touched my life in so many positive ways, as I am sure she did to countless others – she will be missed.
I had the pleasure of working while Linda was at the helm of King County Parks. In the mid 90’s she gave my 16 yr old daughter a gift that will always remain in our memories. She “adopted” my daughter for “Take Your Daughter to Work” day. She opened her eyes to how leadership works and introduced her to the King County Council. Such a precious soul….who will be forever missed. The highway to heaven is far brighter having her travel before us…..as always….leading the way.

My heartfelt condolences to the family. Linda was an exceptional leader here at King County’s Dept. of Transportation. She focused on people connecting closely with staff and deeply concerned about the citizens of King County. Her poise and grace will always be remembered here.
May God bring you comfort and peace, and bring to mind in part of the healing process many good memories of Linda.
Linda was, without a doubt, one of the most respected individuals whom I have worked under over a 31 year career.
It wasn’t just how she managed people.
It was Linda – the person – whom you knew cared for her staff, knew how to enable us to strive to do our best, and would be there when something came up and needed an answer in awkward personnel situations.
Sadly, I had not heard about the stoke before I moved from Seattle. Nor, until a former co-worker emailed me today. that she had passed.
The world will be lessened by her physical absence from us, but, in a very real sense, she’ll be with us still.
May God bless her family, and may they know that many people had the utmost respect and love for her.
Through her actions, Linda made it clear that she valued each and every one of those working for the RSD. She brought warmth, humor, caring, and a can-do attitude everywhere she went, much to the benefit of those with and for whom she worked.
One of my first Roads memories of Linda was seeing her dressed for Halloween, wearing her wicked witch outfit, complete with a long swooping cape and tall black hat…of course, giving out treats as she went through the hallways. She was completely at ease in any situation, it seemed, and always was willing to join in the fun.
My deepest condolences to Linda’s family. She was truly an outstanding person and is missed very much!
I so admired Linda when she worked at Roads, and asked myself just what it was that made her so special to so many. I decided it was the depth of her humanity. . .she exuded great good will, and had that special gift of making you feel like you had her utmost respect, whatever your position. She extended such kindness, warmth and care to all who crossed her path, and that is why so many hearts are broken by news of her passing. How lucky I feel to have met her. I send my heartfelt condolences to her family.
To Linda’s family – I send my deepest sympathies. I had the pleasure of working with Linda when I worked at King County many years ago. I worked in the Planning Department, but we often interacted with Parks Department when we were developing land use plans for the many communities in unincorporated King County. She was a wonderful person to work with and will be missed.
My sincere sympathy to Linda’s family…she will always be remembered and loved….I sure will remember her beautiful smile….may eternal rest grant unto her, Oh Lord….and may she rest in peace and in God’s Grace…..
