January 4, 1938 - December 28, 2022

Obituary

Lino (Lining) Estacio Rivera, age 84, passed away peacefully at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle on the evening of December 28, 2022, with his wife Aurelia, daughter Marivic, son Henry, daughter-in-law Jocelyn and grandson Zachary at his side.

Lino was born January 4, 1938, in Santo Tomas La Union, Philippines. He studied medicine and received his Medical Doctorate on April 11, 1966, at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay in Santo Tomas La Union, Philippines.

While living in Santo Tomas, Lino did not know that his future loving wife Aurelia resided not far away. In fact, they were both neighbors. He fell in love with the girl next door. In 1956, Aurelia moved to Galas, Quezon City and Lino commuted back and forth multiple times throughout the years from Santo Tomas to Quezon City to visit Aurelia. From that point on, their love blossomed, and they later decided to elope in 1959. On July 25, 1960, they made it official and were married by the Justice of Peace in the city of Caloocan, Philippines.

In 1969, Lino and Aurelia, along with their two kids Marivic, 5 years old, and Henry, 2 years old, moved to Seattle, Washington for a chance to have a better life. Lino continued to stay in the medical field. His first job was at Swedish Hospital in Seattle as a Pharmacy Assistant for 5 years. Afterwards, he moved on to take a Claim Examiner position at Blue Cross for 20 years, then retired with Group Health in 2001.

Lino loved his three grandchildren. Whether they were 1 or 31 years old, he and Aurelia would drive to Auburn and spoil them with gifts like food, clothes, toys and even money. They both wanted to spend as much time as they could with them. Taking vacations with the family was also a priority for them. It’s family first over anything else.

In the later years, Lino developed a green thumb and turned his backyard into a fruit and vegetable oasis. One of the many fruits he grew, the Japanese pears, he shared with everyone from his friends to family. He took great pride in his garden, tending to it every day.

Another hobby of his was going to the horse races at Emerald Downs and walking around at the Southcenter mall with his dear wife, Aurelia. You would never see them separated. They would go everywhere together.

Lino brought joy, laughter, and a vibrant energy to everyone he encountered. He dedicated his life to his family. Sadly, Aurelia, his beloved wife and true love passed away a few weeks after his own passing. They are together again in the comfort of the Lord.

Lino is survived by his daughter Marivic Rivera, son Henry Rivera and daughter-in-law Jocelyn Rivera; grandchildren Zachary, Angelica (Jelly) and Gabrielle (Gabby); brothers Leonardo and Romeo and sister Loreta Swal, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by older brothers Cleto, Mariano, and Jesus Rivera.
