In Memory of Lois Jeanne Anderegg
October 17, 1927 – August 24, 2022

Lois was born at Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon to Luther and Beatrice Newgard. She had one brother, Robert Newgard, who preceded her in death in 2012. She grew up in the Portland area and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1945. Following graduation, the next several years would lead her to the same place she was born. She attended the Emanuel Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated as a Registered Nurse on July 31, 1948. After graduation, she began her career as an ER nurse at Emanuel Hospital before moving to a private practice nurse. This is where she met the love of her life, Arnold “Arnie” Anderegg. Lois was the nurse for Arnie’s doctor who was at the clinic for a visit. On June 2, 1951, they were married and lived in the Portland area. Later, Arnie and Lois relocated to the greater Seattle area when Arnie was transferred from Portland to Renton, WA by his company, Container Corporation of America.

After moving to Seattle, they had three children together – son Paul, son Jon and daughter Sharon. She put her nursing career on hold to raise her three children. She enjoyed camping with her family, walking the beach on the Oregon Coast, reading books and especially Sunday church services. Lois returned to work in the mid 1970’s where she ended her career as a Charge Nurse at Wesley Terrace Retirement home in Des Moines before retiring in the early 1980’s. After retirement, Lois had several hobbies to keep her busy. She loved crochet, playing Solitaire and volunteering at the Des Moines Senior Center.

She enjoyed traveling and took trips with Arnie to Hawaii and Switzerland where Arnie’s parents emigrated from and several relatives still reside. One of the most memorable was her journey to the holy land. That was a special trip that always stuck with her. She also traveled to Juneau, Alaska, where both of her grandchildren were born.

After spending 64 wonderful years together, Arnie passed away on October 11, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon (1971) and son Paul (2004). Lois is survived by her son Jon (wife Tracy), granddaughter Alicia (Mark) Richards and grandson Jeff. A celebration of life will be held at Judson Park Retirement Home in Des Moines on October 8, 2022 from 2-4pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Judson Park Benevolence Fund.
