Obituary
Lourdes Dimalanta, Seattle
Lourdes N. Dimalanta, member of St. James Cathedral Parish, died Feb. 22. She was 85.
Born in Manila, Philippines, Lourdes Nicomedes received a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce. She moved to Seattle in 1965 and made many friends, including Mrs. Mildred Bain whom she called her “Second Mother”. She met and married the love of her life, Fortunato Dimalanta. They enjoyed life together – he with his golf and she as his caddy; she singing in the Kayumangi Choir and he intently listening; going to music events, and activities at the Filipino Community Center. After Fortunato’s death in 1988, Lourdes focused on her faith and life around St. James Cathedral and the parish community. She was at all Masses and parish events, helped in the Cathedral kitchen, and a fixture at coffee hour. At the 100th Anniversary Mass of the Cathedral she stated, “This feels like heaven for me”…”You really feel the presence of a live God inside.”
Survivors include her sister, Josefina Reyes, and her brother, Nicasio Nicomedes, in the Philippines, and several nieces and nephews in California, Texas and Seattle.
Rosary will be held on Thursday, March 15, at 7:00 pm at BONNEY-WATSON Capitol Hill, 1732 Broadway, Seattle, WA. (206) 322-0013. A funeral Mass will be celebrated March 16, 10:00 am at St. James Cathedral.
Dear Lourdes, you are forever in our hearts! You touched our lives with such gentleness and love. We know you are now with HIm and your heart is so very happy!
My sincere thoughts, prayers, and condolences are with Tita Ludy’s bereaved relatives and friends. I’d also like to express my gratitude to her friend, Josephine Tamayo, for making the funeral arrangements. Her generosity and kindness is appreciated. Thank you also to the St. James Parish priests and staff.
To our faithful pew mate, Lourdes, we will miss you at St. James. Please pray for us. We love you.
Our deepest sympathy to her family.

Everyone around St. James knew Lourdes; most of us knew her as the lady who never stopped praying. When my daughter was diagnosed with cancer, Lourdes immediately began turning her prayers to Holly. It helped me greatly to have this devout friend turning her prayers to my loved one.
I will certainly not be wearing black to her memorial. She wore brilliant silks in orange, greens, yellows….always a sunspot in our overcast weather.
Rest in peace, dear Lourdes
I am so very sorry for your loss. Please know that God will comfort and sustain you. Psalms 34:18 says that He is near to those broken at heart and saves those crushed in spirit. He truly knows the pain you feel. He assures us at John 5:28 that a time will soon come when we will welcome back to our arms those we have lost. Know that time is very near. Allow God to comfort your soul until that day arrives. Please keep His promises close to your heart. I offer my deepest sympathies to your entire family.
