Obituary

LUAN BOSCH TIDDENS ONFFROY

Luan Bosch Tiddens Onffroy, passed away in Federal Way, Washington on December 10, 2009. She was a long-time resident of Boise, Idaho. Luan was born October 15, 1930 in Peoria, Illinois during the Great Depression. She was the firstborn child of William and Lucille Oberer Bosch. Her entire childhood was spent in Illinois with the exception of early years living in Portland, Oregon. She attended several schools in the Peoria area and graduated from Chillicothe Township High School in 1948.

In the Spring of 1949, she met Ehno Tiddens and they married on September 30, 1950 in Peoria. To that union were born, Mark, Paul, Lisa, Beth, Anne and Carol. The family moved to Boise, Idaho in August, 1957. They later divorced.

Luan was a devoted mother and was active in her children’s many school activities, while pursuing her own ambitions including cake decorating, making many and varied crafts, and growing beautiful flowers that consistently won awards at the Idaho State Fair. Luan traveled to Yakima, Washington for the National Chrysanthemum Show where she was awarded a blue ribbon. At holiday time, she was known for baking up to 115 dozen cookies and many batches of candy, making candles and floral arrangements where all were given as gifts for friends and family. She was also a hospice volunteer, a bridge club player, and a member of craft clubs. She was especially proud of her award from Life’s Doors Hospice for serving 1, 000 hours of time with them. God gave her many talents, and she developed and shared these gifts with others.

Luan stayed in touch over the years with her relatives and friends from back to grade school, located across the U.S. She also took care of her Grandmother Oberer’s christening dress, which she, her children, her grand-children, and over 80 relatives have worn.

Luan was married to Roland Onffroy in the latter part of her life. Together they enjoyed dancing, traveling, the theater, and cruising. He preceded her in death as did her brother, Conrad William Bosch.

Luan is survived by her children; Mark & Judy Tiddens, Paul & Lida Tiddens, Lisa, Beth & Gerald Bernt, Anne & Mike Brennan, Carol & Brian Robertson, 16 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, her sister, Gretchen Bosch Coats, and sister-in-law Sally Bosch Osherow.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial donations to Life’s Doors Hospice in Boise would be greatly appreciated http://www.lifesdoors.com/, or your local hospice.

Visitation will be on December 15 from 3 PM to 5 PM at Bonney Watson Funeral Home in Federal Way, Washington, including a rosary service at 4 PM. On December 16 at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Federal Way, visitation will be at 9 AM and a funeral mass at 9:30 AM, with reception following. On December 17, there will be a graveside service at 11:15 AM at Tahoma National Cemetery.

Please accept my condolences on the death of your mom. I remember her from our trips to Peoria, which we made every year from Austin when I was gorwing up. Luan and my mother, Jane Williston were very good friends, and Luan was my sister Christine’s godmother along with Uncle Charlie, mother’s brother. We used to always have a family get-together in Gretchen’s back yard. One of my favorite memories is sneaking into the Voss basement and watching the men play pinocle.

My husband David and I live in Lubbock, Texas. David recently completed his term as mayor of Lubbock and we have 3 children and 5 grandchildren and one on the way. Mother is in a lovely retirement center in Austin, very healthy, but rather forgetful. I’m afraid more care is going to be necessary. I have told her about Luan’s passing several times but she does not remember our conversations but she certainly remembers Luan and their friendship. My best to you all during this blessed holiday season.

Aunt Luan touched me with her love, she was always loving with a since of hard work, and fairness. She could really run a household even with 6 or7 cousins thrown into the mix.Aunt Luan gave me an appreciation of plants which touched my soul. One summer in Boise she gave me the task of watering all the flowers and plants around the grounds. She took the time to teach me how to water, moist not wet. Each day it was my responsibily to water twice a day. Oh, how I grew to love plants. The Datsuns in Peoria. Us cousins playing together. It was always so much fun to be with my family. Aunt Luan thank you for loving me as you did. Your love is part of myself.

To all my wonderful Cousins, Mark,Anne,Paul,Carol, and Lisa I love you all.

Carol,

It sounded like your mom lived a full and rewarding wonderful life. If only I can do half the things that she has done, it will be worth it.

Condolences to you and your family.

Sorry to hear of Luan’s death. What a talented person she was! Many people “do crafts” but Luan like Lucille and Romaine was a true artist. I’ll never forget the tree she made Sister Regina out of a rock, brass wire, and chips of rose quartz for the leaves. Luan was a perfectionist and a problem solver–always, she could think of a better way to do something even if it was as simple as getting the last pickles from a jar.

And, what about her passion and talents for gardening! She came by that honestly–Aunt Lucille’s backyard was heavenly! Nothing but flowers with a winding path through it!

Well, wish we could have been at the funeral but I’m glad that our nephew Phil Read could be there and meet all his cousins. What a surprise that he already knew Anne and her husband from church but didn’t know that they were related! Small world! or big family?

All of us in Peoria are thinking of you. Much love–Cookie Voss Radosevich

My deepest sympathy to Mark, Paul, Lisa, Beth, Anne and Carol —- Your Mother was a cherished family treasure – so precious in every way she led her life. She brought love to all our lives and hearts wherever she might be. I remember how her Brother, Conrad, would always speak so highly of his sister, Luan, who he admired and loved so much before his early death. Luan was a true sister in my heart as we shared many special memories from The Lake House in Bradford, Il. to family celebrations at The Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Fl. My heart and prayers will be with you always. Lots of love, Sally Bosch Osherow

I had written in the guest book before, but apparently it isn’t there. I just want all of Luan’s family to know I have missed her here in Boise; had hoped she would get back someday. We shared some good times here in the last 20 years. My heartfelt sympathy,

Our sympathy, Mark, to you and your siblings.

I’ve forwarded this information to my brother Gene and my sisters and also to my nephew Philip Read Susie’s second son who happens to live in Federal Way. Yes, it’s a small world! Phil and his wife Alison have a son Noah who’s about four months old. If he’s able to get to the funeral home, he’s been told to identify himself as a Voss descendent. Susie’s husband Dave was from Seattle so they have lots of relatives out there.

I am so saddened to hear about the passing of your mom and my Aunt Luan. She was an amazing woman. We have many of her crafts in our home, reminding me of her talents. The obituary told of a woman who loved all things beautiful and was a devoted humanitarian. I have very fond, loving memories of her. John and I send you our deepest sympathy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Sorry to hear about your Mom’s death.

She was so talented. For years I used the afghan she made Matt and I as a wedding present almost 34 years ago. I always marveled at the exquisite marzipan candies she would make and give us in Peoria. They were too beautiful to eat.

Please extend my sympathies to your family.

I can remember the times when your family came to Peoria to visit. Sometimes we would head off from your grandparents’ house, through the woods and down a hill to buy Dairy Queen on Farmington Road across from lower Bradley Park.

I have great memories of your Grandma and Grandpa, and can remember visiting them when they rented a cottage on the Illinois River. I also remember your Grandpa Bill playing cards with Uncle Chuck, Uncle Joe, and probably my Uncle Bob Strassburger, in the basement of my parents’ house.

It’s been fun to reminisce.

Keep in touch. And, again, please accept my condolences.

What a remarkable handmaid of the Lord was this woman. The proof is not in the pudding, but the fruit of her love and knowing her daughter Anne and their faithfilled family, I know first hand what a wonderful life she lived in the spirit. May God comfort and bring healing to all grieving hearts. May the joy of Christmas overshadow this grief in the LIght of Christ’s Love+

I have only the fondest memories of our visits to see Aunt Luan and Uncle Bub in Boise. Your family certainly went the extra mile to welcome us mid-westerners and introduce us to the wonders of the West. Such fun we had at Bogus Basin, then, traveling along the Columbia River to see the Ocean. We went crabbing on the sea shore and ate crab louie while camping. I always thought it was named after Aunt Luan. Eating home fried chicken and bread and butter sandwichs which Aunt Luan lovingly prepared for our long train ride back to Chicago. I loved the canned bing cherries and peanut brittle! Aunt Luan did it all!

Oh the fond memories I have of our visits.

May His peace, countless blessings, choice memories, the love of friends and family comfort you at this time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

As Aunt Hazel always writes,

Love and Prayers.

I liked the way she called me dummkopf and fed me the best home grown tomatoes I ever had. It was a gift to know her.
