The funeral really captured the kind of rememberance that my grandmother would have wanted. Thanks to all who came and those who sent their love.

To Lucille’s family:

I was very saddened to learn about Lucille’s death. As someone who “grew up” at Highland Park United Methodist Church, I have such vivid and wonderful memories of her. She was always smiling, always laughing, always helping, and always caring. I remember the fun of working to set up the bazaar with her and my mother, Alice Warren, and so many others. On one occasion, Lucille even dressed up as a clown for a bazaar.

I also know of her dedication to visit the shut-ins who could no longer attend church. Along with Ann Read and Alice Hoskinson, Lucille came to visit my mother, who now resides in a nursing home.

Just three years ago, my daughter and I attended a service at Highland Park. And I saw Lucille after the service, smiling, laughing, and caring. She gave me a big hug. And that wonderful gesture and so much more will be the treasured memories of Lucille that I will always hold close to my heart.

On behalf of my mother and myself, I offer our sincerest sympathy to you. I hope that the love and care of your friends and your own memories of your wonderful mother/grandmother sustain you through these difficult days.

May God bless you at this time and always.

Grandma was the most sincere, true person I’ve known. She taught me so much in my lifetime. I don’t know what I’m going to do without her. I was so pleased at the amount of people that came to her funeral. It was a truly beautiful service for a truly beautiful lady.

I love you Grandma

It’s been a year since we lost Grandma, and what a “loss” it’s been. I find myself picking up the phone to call and ask her how to cook something, or if we can borrow her clamming gear, or to ask a question about our family history. Her passing is still so heavy on my heart, but I know she is at peace. She is with Grandpa, her brothers and sisters, her mama and beloved friend Verna.

I’m am so glad I climbed into the hospital bed with her and just took in her Grandma smell. I can close my eyes and think back and the smell is still as fresh and sweet as the day she left us.
