Obituary

Lyle Smith was born August 22, 1930 in Custer, South Dakota to Lawrence O. and Dollie Edwards Smith.  He had three brothers and one sister.  Lyle spent his childhood in South Dakota, Idaho, and Washington.  After serving two years in the Army, one year being in Korea he went to Wyoming to work.  After being there a few years he met Viva Mitchell who later became his wife in 1956.  They were blessed with a daughter and two sons.  He loved Wyoming and  had many stories about his years working in the oil fields and his numerous hunting trips and other experiences with Viva’s family.

Lyle and Viva made their choice to serve God in about 1964 and they both kept true to this choice to the end of their lives.  In about 1965 he moved his family to Burien area.  After a time he got a job working as a site attendant for Seattle Solid Waste and worked there until he retired.  Viva passed away in 1991 from breast cancer.  In 1992 he and Elaine Eades were married.  From this marriage he gained four grown step-children.   He and Elaine enjoyed  seventeen years in Onalaska, Washington where they were privileged to have a meeting in their home.  Lyle appreciated this time very much and loved all the friends.  He enjoyed spending a fair amount of time maintaining his antique tractors and pick-up and raising a garden on the acreage.  He was also a talented artist painting with oil and acrylics.  In 2012 they were both having some health issues so they moved to an apartment in Burien because it was time to down-size and move closer to the kids.  Lyle spent many happy hours painting in the art room of the apartment complex where they lived.  He loved all of his family and always enjoyed spending time with them.

He was predeceased in death by his father and mother, three brothers; Kenneth, Leonard, and Clarence; and his wife, Viva.  He is survived by his sister, Lorena Brummer; present wife, Elaine; son Lyle L, Jr(Melody) son, Ted (Laloaina); daughter, Angela;  step-son Andy (Judy); step-son Phillip (Rose Marie); step-daughters Anne Louise and Mary; grandchildren Melissa, Andrew, Leah, Nellie, Lyle, Eric, Rachel, Abigail, Elliot, Isabelle, Andres and five great-grandchildren; George, Helena, Declan, Evelyn, Solomon;  three brother-in-laws; John Mitchell (Arlene);  Edward Mitchell (Selene); Donald Mitchell(Sandy); many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Lyle was a spiritual, kind, gentle, generous, energetic man who will be missed by his family and friends.
