Obituary
Lyle Rollie Oliver was born on October 4, 1922, as Lisle Rolla Skillen in a house in Yakima, Washington to Sylvia (Lovelace) and Charles Gilmore Skillen. His mother died when he was three years old and Lyle was taken by his father, an alcoholic, from ranch to ranch looking for a family to take him in. Stella (Lawrence) and James Harvey Oliver welcomed him into their home with open arms, and raised him without any formal adoption procedures or papers. He was always known as Lyle Oliver.
He grew up in Wapato, Washington, graduated from Wapato High School and attended Central Washington University in Ellensburg. He met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Mae Deffries, in 1949 in Seattle. They had three children, Gary, Colleen, and Richard, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
They had 56 love-filled years together until Dorothy went to be with her Lord Jesus in 2005. Lyle was active in music ministry in churches in the Seattle area throughout his adult life, and traveled semi-professionally with the Harmony Four Quartet led by Bud Tutmarc.
Lyle retired in 1983 after 30 years as a land surveyor for the Seattle Engineering Department.
Lyle was called to his heavenly home on May 30, 2018, while a resident of Fred Lind Manor, where he found a wonderful community and with whom he thrived.
