Obituary
We are both sad and happy to report that on Wednesday, March 19th, around 6:40 pm, Lynn Marie McCaffray peacefully departed this Life for her Next Great Adventure!
A very private, creative, loving, brilliant Poet and Landscaper, Lynn had a Rich Inner Life sustained by her Love of Nature & Family that served her well during her last years with Alzheimer’s.
A Seattle Native born on September 18, 1947 she grew up on Capitol Hill, attended Seattle University, graduated from Evergreen State College, worked at Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island and proceeded to become a Master Horticulturist & Gardener. She is survived by her sisters Mary Bea, Ann Georgia, Toni and Sarah Angell (Stephen), her nieces Rachael, Kelsey and nephew Sam.
Two of Lynn’s great loves were the big Island of Hawaii where she had a condo and the Borrego Desert where she shared a house with Mary Bea. One of Ann & Toni’s most fun memories was the final road trip with Lynnie, to the Desert, filled with laughter & wonder as they listened to her observations, imaginings and insights.
As her niece Rachael remembers her… “Lynnie was an (unintentional) to-go coffee cup collector, a Creamsicle Dixie Cup Queen, a lover of the ethereal, 1950’s camp horror, The Brave Little Toaster, and she never met a cake she wouldn’t discreetly side-swipe the frosting from (before it was cut, no less). She was entirely too gentle for this Earth, and the Badger inside me will miss her presence and love.”
As her nephew Sam recalls… “Lynnie had a love of Foghorn Leghorn and would quote “Son… I say, I say you’re too short, the jokes are going over your head!” And then she would chuckle!! To have one more moment with her would fill my heart.”
As our Cousin Darcy has said… “When I think of Lynnie, to me she was a very independent and free spirited woman at a time when those traits weren’t always acceptable. She lived life on her terms.”
Our thanks to all for your love & support. The memory of Lynn’s grace, strength, gentle spirit, huge Heart and sly chuckle will now sustain us!
The Family will hold a private memorial in June.
love…. the beautiful photo and what was written.. .
Cousin Lynnie…..a true gentle giant….she towered over me so lovingly…..last meeting with her….she pulled up in her truck….we scarfed down some eggs at a cafe by the locks…(a visit too short after so many years…), a quiet mysteriousness as she pulled out of that Ballard parking lot….a smile and a wave…
I have fond memories of Lynnie from summers on Three Tree Point. I always felt encouraged from spending time around her.
