Obituary
Marcus William Thompson, age 63, after a long and valiant battle with cancer, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 9, 2014 in Federal Way, WA.
Marcus was born in Seattle at Ft. Lawton Hospital to Virginia “Ginny” (Wood) and William “Bill” Thompson on Nov. 29, 1950. His first home was in West Seattle, then the family moved to Burien where he graduated from Evergreen High School with the Class of ’69.
His first job was working for his dad at the family business, West Seattle Brake Service, founded by his grandfather Ellis Thompson in 1937, still in operation today as a family-owned business.
In 1976, he was hired at Red Dot Corporation where he was one of the 2 original members of the Research and Development group, a position he held for the next 32 years. He was very proud of his department, his company and the many contributions he delivered over the years.
An accomplished guitar player, he performed in several bands in the area throughout the 60’s, 70’s and 80s. Sounder, Hot Wire, and Iris Hill are some of the bands for which he was better known.
He married Brenda Moran in 1981 and they had 2 children, Shelby and Adam. They later divorced.
Marcus married Sandy Parkison on July 26, 1997. They successfully created a large and wonderful blended family with his 2 children, Adam and Shelby, and her 4 children from a previous marriage, Chris, Joel, Katie, and Matt.

Step-sons: Chris, Joel and Matt (Kimberly) Bradley
Step-daughter: Katie Midwood (Jon)
Four Grandchildren: Jon, Ryan, Liana and Chloe
Brother: John “Blackie” Thompson (Rhonda)
Sister: Barbara Thompson
several nieces and nephews.
He was a very good friend and I have many wonderful memories of all the fun we shared.
Although the Lord took you from this world way too early, you have left a beautiful legacy in your wake. Everything you touched was better because of you, including me. You chose a beautiful. loving woman to step-parent our children after our time together was over and I will be forever grateful that Sandy is in their lives. Here’s a toast to you, Marcus. I am happy that all the pain is behind you and that you will have the opportunity to play music with Jimi and Janis. You are a loving memory.
We moved in next door to Bill & Virginia in January 1959. Our children have many happy memories of the 3 Thompson children. Our houses on S.W. 129th street was a wonderful
block to raise children on. Our son Craig had great fun playing football and baseball with John and Mark.
We are so very sorry we missed Mark’s services.
I’m sorry to see that cancer has taken another dear soul and that Mark has passed away. I’m so happy for my time spent with the Thompson siblings during our years at Puget Sound and Evergreen. Love and blessings to you all. Rock on!
