Obituary
Margaret Katherine VANNI
Beloved wife, mother & Gramma
February 8, 1924 – May 16, 2009
Margaret was born in Gimli, Manitoba to Icelandic parents Margret and Sigurdur Torfason. She was proud of her Icelandic and Canadian heritage. She had many tales to tell of growing up on the shores of Lake Winnipeg in this small Icelandic community. Her family moved to Vancouver BC in the early l940’s. It was there that she met the love of her life: Edo Vanni, who was a baseball player with the Seattle Rainiers.
They married in l947 and remained in Seattle, living on Queen Anne for over 60 years. Together they always worked very hard and saved their pennies to build a good, strong, solid life for their family. Mom was the quiet, strong support for Dad – always there for him and the family.
When Dad passed away two years ago, things changed for her. Dad’s death was the start of mom’s slow decline. We have treasured our time with this special, quiet mom and gramma. Her presence in our lives will be greatly missed, but forever remembered. You are at peace now and can finally rest. We love you.
Margaret is survived by daughter Joanne Sam Furgason of Medina, son Edo Janice of Seattle and three precious grandchildren Lauren and Michael Furgason, and Olivia Vanni. She is also survived by sisters Evelyn Plottel and Donna Hauschka of Vancouver BC, brother Lloyd Torfason of Calgary, and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Dr. Paul Sytman and nurse Jennifer, and especially to Overlake Senior Care John, Brenda, Paula, Zina for their exceptional love and care for Margaret.
Funeral service: 7PM Thursday evening – May 21 at Bonney Watson 1732 Broadway, Seattle
Internment: 10am Friday – May 22 at Calvary Cemetery in Seattle.

Margaret was a lovely woman. Our families go back many years. When I moved into the Bel-Air Apts., Margaret became a second mother to me. She made sure there were no wild parties and wanted to approve all dates.
She would call to chat and check on the news over the years. I had many visits with her and Edo at the Aloha St. home.
Visited her at Bay View Manor and it just wasn’t home for her. The last few years have been difficult. You will be missed.
Joanne & Edo –
Your Mother was a very positive influence on my life. You two had a beautiful role model. She was always so proud of both of you. May she rest in peace. Sincerely, Linda Juliano

Joanne and Edo,
I’m sorry to hear about your Mother’s passing. She was such a lovely woman. She was so warm and gracious when I visited your parents at their home. My Grandma loved her and always spoke so highly of her. I know she is at peace now. I’m thinking of you… Carol
Dear Margaret,
You are beautiful inside and out and I know that you are at peace and free from pain with Edo.
Our family was fortunate to have had you for so many years.
Margaret
To Joanne and Edo Your mom was a great influence in my life at Sacred Heart and I am a better person for knowing her. I know she continued to positively affect people in her life because she was that kind of person. May we all learn from her example.
Margaret was Edo”s rock and she is now at peace with her God and asking where she can find Edo and all of her friends who went before her. What a reunion awaits her in heaven!
Dearest Mom, How you will be missed in our family. How fortunate I have been to have you all these years as my mom, confidant, friend. You are at peace after a slow, sometimes difficult journey to join Dad in heaven. Peace to you, Mom.
Love always, Joanne
