MARGARET ‘PEGGY’ LOUISE DOTSON CULLOR
Margaret ‘Peggy’ Louise Cullor passed away peacefully in West Seattle on July 29, 2011. She was born in Cashmere, Washington, the daughter of Margaret and Earl Dotson, on November 22, 1922. In her senior year of high school the family moved to Seattle where she graduated from Queen Anne High School. After attending business school she went to work at Boeing. There she met a young engineer, Glen Cullor, on loan from Lockheed during the war. They married and moved to Burbank, California where Glen had a home. Their first daughter, Margaret, was born 2 years later. When an employment opportunity arose at Boeing, the young family moved back to Seattle where Susan and Janet were born.
Peggy was active in her West Seattle community her entire life. She was a Camp Fire leader when her girls were young. Later she was a member of Quarante, Visiting Nurse Service and Federated Women’s Club. While a member of FWC, she helped raise funds for music scholarships. Her club raised the funds for the construction of the gazebo at South Seattle Community College. Glen designed the structure and helped build it with friends.
In more recent years, Peggy was active on the SSCC Foundation board, chairing the Scholarship Committee.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Thomas, and her husband Glen. She is survived by her daughters Margaret Brown, Susan Cullor and Janet Cullor; granddaughter, Elizabeth ‘Lisa’ Brown; step-granddaughter, Laura Schultz; great granddaughters Emily and Katherine Rodriguez and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 13 at 3:00 pm at the Brockey Center at South Seattle Community College. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the SSCC Foundation Scholarship Fund or a charity of your choice.
“Mrs. Cullor” was one of my Camp Fire leaders in the 50’s. I remember her Halloween party with the cold spaghetti “guts” and peeled grapes “eyeballs” quite vividly. With her energy, creativity and warm personality, she made the community a better place for all of us–a wonderful legacy.
Peggy was my second mother. Growing up I became the 4th daughter, spending sleep overs, cruising on the Salty Cs and even attending church with the family.
Peggy was the quintessential 1950s Mom. Always beautifully groomed, her house impeccable, she had a kind word for everyone. But for all her softness she was a strong woman! I never heard a cross word nor a swear word pass her lips. But she was in control and we girls never forgot it!
I treasure the memory of her warm smile, her soft voice and the twinkle in her eye.
Peggy was a beautiful, intelligent, creative, gracious lady. She lived her values and loved her family. She volunteered her many talents to her community to the end of her life.
We will miss her, but we will keep her in our hearts. It gives me much comfort to know that she is now reunited with her beloved Glen in heaven. For surely heaven was made for such as she.

I only knew her from the conversations we had when she came to workout. Though she was a very nice and caring woman to me.
I will miss her greatly. I only saw her about 2 months ago… I can’t believe she is gone.
My prayers go to the family that is left behind.

Dear Margaret, Susan and Janet – I recently learned of the passing of one of the most admirable individuals . It was ever my honor to know and work with your mother and my dear friend Peggy Cullor. Peggy was an exceptional leader. Her drive and commitment to serve the young men and women of the West Seattle Community was without equal. The untold hours and efforts she spent in raising funds and serving on the college foundation and scholarship committee was without equal. Her inherent belief in the strength and goodness of the young men and women of our community was proven time and time again. She knew the absolute worth of helping people reach for their star. Peggy and I were very distant relatives and, unfortunately, saw each other most often during times when our Aunt Hilda and Uncle Ivan were ill. She was always a kind and exceptional person; never letting on about her many contributions to the community. I will think of her often and miss her dearly.
Aunt Peg was kind and generous to all. She was such an asset to her community and family. I will miss her.
