Obituary

Margaretta “Margie” Roberts of Seattle died May 3 at age 83.

In addition to working side by side with her husband, Vance Roberts, in their aviation business at Boeing Field for 43 years, Margie was also active in the community, its schools and her church. In 1973, she was honored as South Park Citizen of the Year by Seattle’s Mayor. She was President of the South Park Community Club, President of the South Park Senior Citizens, an officer for SPARC and the Southeast Seattle Community Council, as well as the King County Airport Planning Commission. She also was an honored recipient of the Make a Difference Day Foundation, and received awards for her volunteer efforts with Senior Services and the Food Bank, South Park Recreation Center and Catholic Youth Organization for leadership with youth programs.

Margie served as PTA President at both Concord and Cleveland, and received the PTA Acorn Lifetime Achievement Award. She was also a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout Den mother, an Elections Judge, and active in the Republican Caucus for her district. Margie was the first woman elected as an Elder in the New Hope Presbyterian Church, and also served as Clerk of Sessions. She prepared the Sunday Church Bulletin for about 20 years, helped with Vacation Bible School, sang in the choir and served as pianist at both Georgetown and New Hope Presbyterian Churches.

She was preceded in death by husband, Vance Roberts 44 years; brother Ed Reynolds, sons-in-law, Chester Dolan of Montana and Frederick “Bill” Williamson of Kent; and grandsons, Patrick Byers and John Williamson.

Margie is survived by her husband, Lee Barnett; sister, Merylyn Jones of Bonney Lake; daughters, Carol Williamson of Kent, Lynda Dolan of Montana, Phyllis Roberts of Seattle, and Judith “Tim” Douglas Shepherd of Bellingham; son, V. Richard Roberts of Seattle; granddaughters, Heather Brandon Adams-Mayfield of Bellingham, Danelle Howard Rodgers of California, Lisa Snyder of Seattle; grandsons, Neal Chavre of Oregon, Richard and Michael Roberts and William Snyder of Seattle; great granddaughters, Katie and Kristin Chavre of Oregon and Delaney Rodgers of California; great grandsons, Howard and Gavin Rodgers of California; numerous nieces and nephews.

Margie will be remembered as a wonderful, loving wife and mother, as well as someone who was always willing to help others.

Visitation is available on Friday from 4-7 PM at BONNEY-WATSON Washington Memorial, 16445 International Blvd., SeaTac, WA 206 242-1787. A celebration of her life will be held May 7, 2005 at 10:00 AM, followed by fellowship at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 833 South Thistle, Seattle. Private Family Graveside Service will follow at Washington Memorial Park. Those wishing to make a donation in lieu of flowers, may send it in her name to the King County Fire Department 9-1-1 fund.
