Marguerite Mueller SHAY
Age 104, Born June 15, 1900, in Georgetown, now known as South Seattle,
passed away peacefully in her home at Exeter House in Seattle on July 6,
2004. A lifelong resident of Seattle, She was the youngest of three
children born to John and Bertha Mueller. John Mueller was the first and
only mayor of Georgetown and was prominent in local politics. Mrs. Shay was a 1923 graduate of the University of Washington with a B.S.
degree in Home Economics. While attending the University, she met the love
of her life, Alban A. Shay, and they were wed just weeks after college
graduation.
While Alban made his career in architecture, Marguerite was a busy wife and
devoted mother to two sons. In addition, she was very active at the Women’s
University Club, Washington Athletic Club, her sorority, Delta Delta Delta,
the Red Cross and her church. She was the two-time past president of the
Anna Clise Orthopedic Hospital Guild and spent countless hours volunteering
for that facility. She was an inspiration to all who knew her; always ready
to give of herself.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alban, and her two sons, Alban L.
and Richard K., she is survived by her grandchildren; Linda Kurtz Mrs. Tom
Kurtz, Mill Creek, WA, Pamela Shay-Bryant Mrs. Dennis Bryant, Cedar Hill,
TN, and Timothy Shay, Everett, WA, her great-grandchildren; Chris Kurtz,
Chicago, IL and Kerry Kurtz, SLC, UT, and many loving and caring nieces and
nephews.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Exeter House for all th4e
love and compassion she received while in residence, and to Dr. Robert
Goode.
