Obituary

Marianne Molly BERREY

November 11, 1954 – July 24, 2008

Marianne Molly Berrey was born November 11, 1954 in Seattle, Washington to Martin and Jeanne O’Donnell. The fourth of seven children raised in a home filled with love, Molly was the only girl with six brothers: Michael O’Donnell, Patrick O’Donnell Alice, Dennis O’Donnell, Kevin O’Donnell Yoko, Timothy O’Donnell Lisa and Sean Terry O’Donnell Julie. She had a special relationship with her mother and her brothers, who loved her very much.

Molly graduated from Seattle’s Blanchet High School in 1972, and began her career as an Alaska Airlines flight attendant in 1982. In 1987, while on a flight to San Jose, Molly met the love of her life, Henry P. Berrey. Together they have two sons, Henry Dillon Berrey and Derek Martin Berrey.

As a mother, Molly was a great inspiration, always there for Dillon and Derek as they grew to become young men. She was a constant presence on the sidelines cheering for her boys and all their friends. Her kitchen was always open to the many University Place teens who call the Berrey house a second home.

Molly was a loving, devoted wife and mother, beloved sister, niece, aunt and friend. Her sharp wit, ready smile and infectious laugh warmed our hearts. Her sound advice and sympathetic shoulder brightened our days. We will miss you, Molly. Although you left us much too soon, we will remember you forever.

Viewing for close friends and family will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30 at Bonney-Watson, 1535 SW Dash Point Rd., Federal Way. Funeral Mass will be celebrated the same day at 12:00 noon at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7112 S. 12th St., Tacoma.

Memorials may be made to Friends of Curtis Football PO Box 64385, University Place, WA 98464; or to Curtis Hoopsters PO Box 64846, University Place, WA 98464.

Henry and Boys, I am so very late sending my condolences, but they are heart felt nontheless. Just this past year, I had several occasions to meet up with Molly. This always made me think of the fun times at the Frankos parties.

Molly was such a beautiful person inside and out. She is a person that will be greatly missed by many from every walk of life.

Henry, if there is anything I am able to do for you, please let me know.

To Molly’s Family and Friends.

I am so saddened to have learned about Molly’s passing. I know how much she was loved by her husband and family – and that she will be missed greatly. Although it’s been a very long time since I last saw her, I still remember her great wit, her beautiful smile and how she lit up any room she entered.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time.

Henry,

I don’t have your phone number or address, but i’ll find it somehow, through Don. When i get back from my little trip, i’m going to call you and visit and I hope that will be okay with you.

It was a beautiful, heartbreaking ceremony yesterday. Your boys are so extraordinary, handsome and amazing. Molly would have been so proud.

I’ll be in touch.

love, jo

Dear Henry,Derek and Dillon,

We are all so sad and shocked by Molly’s passing. Your mom was a special person and we will always remember her smile. Kate and I would enjoy spending game days with your mom, laughing and cheering and enjoying watching Kate and the boys growing so much before our eyes. May God comfort you and please let us know if we can help you in any way possible.

Moll-doll, I can’t believe that your laughter has been silenced and that you are really gone. After over 30 years of friendship, it seems impossible. The Ya-Ya’s will never quite be the same.

Henry, Dillon & Derek, you don’t need to be told how wonderful and special your wife & mom was; you already know that in your hearts. And like yourselves, I will hold a special place for her in my heart forever.

Molly you will be missed.

Dillon & Family,

No! words can adequately describe the pain I feel for you on this day. I remember our years playing soccer together and the times that I would watch my Dad and your Mom cheer us on to victory in those games. My sadness is that I never got to know how wonderful your mom wqas because of our age. I remember her smile and her passion for sports and life. I wish you and your family God’s love and grace and hope that you can find some comfort in knowing that your mom was loved by everyone that met her. I hope you can move forward with the knowledge that your mom is in heaven and that god loves her very much.

In Prayer

Words can not express our sorrow. Our hearts go out to Molly’s husband and her children.

I did not know her well, but enjoyed our time together selling concessions at the Curtis Basketball games. She was very proud of both of her sons, and enjoyed sharing all that they were involved with. We have enjoyed working with her two boys and seen her goodness and strength in each of them. May God Bless the family and may they each find peace in His words and promise to us all.

Sincerely,

John, Linda and Drew Smith

Henry, Dillon and Derek –

I met Molly in a prenatal exercise class at the Y in 1990 – there were several of us in our early-mid thirties, from various professions, but united in our first pregnancies. We all enjoyed each other’s company so much that, as those babies started to arrive, we stayed together in an informal playgroup for a couple of years – through the arrival of those babies’ siblings, in several cases.

Even though I had not seen Molly in several years, I echo the entries recalling her as a beautiful and elegant woman; she was genuinely lovely in body and soul. I remember most of all her joy at the birth of Dillon and Derek, and how much she loved her family.

May it comfort the Berrey and O’Donnell families, in time, to know how many people grieve this untimely loss with you, and how fondly we will remember Molly.

Our family shares the grief and shock that are reverberating around UP this week. Our son Danny has been Dillon’s friend since 1st grade, and we have loved and appreciated Molly over the years as the best mom and friend ever. She is universally admired and loved. We love Henry, Dillon and Derek, and would line up behind all the other UP friends to do anything we could to support your family. Our prayers have been with you since Wednesday, and we will keep you in our prayers. We know that “Families are Forever.” Love always…The Gessels

To friends and family of Molly,

I had the pleasure of flying with Molly at Alaska Airlines. She was a personality “larger then life” on the airplane. She had a way of not only making the passengers laugh but her fellow crew mates. Her smile would light up the cabin. I am so sorry for your loss and just wanted you to know that I too will miss not boarding a plane for work with Molly on it.

Molly and her family have meant so much to our family in the last three years. We spent many hours in the bleachers together talking and cheering our boys on in football, basketball, wrestling and track. Molly and I also were always talking on the cell trying to locate our boysTyler and Derek making sure they were safe and they were where they were suppose to be. We appreciate the extra love from them this last year as TJ has been in Iraq. Molly is a classy lady, wonderful mother, wife and friend, beam of light that will always be in our hearts. We were honored to know her and may God grant her family and friends peace and comfort. TJ, Tawnya, Tyler and Trevor Jamison

I love that photo of Molly!

This sad news still doesn’t seem real. And I can’t begin to understand how hard this is for those who loved her most – Henry, Dillon and Derek, her best friend, Nancy, and all her brothers and many friends.

Even though I haven’t seen Molly for long while, she was a big part of my life at one time and I treasure those years. She had such a sharp, quick wit that when I first met her I knew she was just right for Henry. Molly was so funny! And she could do so many things so well. The void she leaves behind will be so incredibly wide and deep.

I am so sorry, Henry, Dillon, and Derek.
