Obituary
Marie Annette Connors
nee Sachs, died peacefully at home Oct. 3, 2011.
Born in El Paso, she attended Seattle’s Roosevelt High School
and the University of Washington. A teacher by profession
and passion, she taught Spanish at Sharples Junior High
and was the director of Casa España at the University of Washington.
She also taught countless students at Blessed Sacrament grade school and instructed hundreds of people in Transcendental Meditation, AyurVedic Medicine and Eastern mysticism.
Her gentle serenity and generosity were a blessing to all who knew her. Her accepting nature and willingness to listen were a comfort to many in pain and in joy.
She married the love of her life James (Joe) Connors in 1955. Together they raised five children and had 56 wonderful years together. Her love of family and friends was matched by her love of animals. In her last few years she and her dog Tibet were rarely apart.
Marie is survived by her husband Joe, children Lucrezia Paxson, Katherine, Michael, Patricia Kirkham, and Jennifer Garza-Cuen; grandchildren Shauna Spenley, Amanda Paxson, Camille Kirkham, Michael and Allison Connors and Adia Kirkham; two great-granddaughters Katherine and Ava Spenley; in-laws Pat and Phil McFarland, John Paxson, Steve Bussey, Valerie Connors, Jeff Kirkham, Mike Spenley and Dave Beran. She is also survived by beloved family members Joe and James McFarland and Leah; Andrew, Joe, Marie, Antonia, David, Edward, Tom, Michael, John and George McPherson and their spouses and children. In addition, she is remembered by extended family Jim and Sherry Anderson, Steve Walker, Doug and Sarah Tiel and dozens of exchange students from around the world to whom she was host mother. She was preceded in death by her brother Terry Sachs and sister Gloria Cuen McPherson.
A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon, Oct. 8, 2011 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5050 8th Ave. N.E. Seattle, WA. 98105. Reception follows at the church hall.
In lieu of flowers please make donations in Marie’s name to the animal rescue or shelter of your choice.
My sympathy to Joe and all other family members on the sad loss of Marie.
Marie was a mentor to me! She gave me wisdom and inspired me to follow my dreams! She will forever live in my heart.
There won’t be a day that goes by that I won’t think of her, and smile, knowing every second we spent together meant something! She was special!
