Obituary

Marie Bird Dodds JOHNSTON

March 22, 1907 – January 18, 2007

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Marie, passed away peacefully on Jan. 18th. She cherished her family and was loved by all who knew her. Mom was born Mar. 22, 1907 to Joseph and Rowena Dodds in Columbus, Nebraska. She grew up in Nebraska but moved to Seattle with her husband, George, in 1934. George and Marie raised four children in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle where she actively participated in the kids’ activities. Mom’s love for her family was unsurpassed. More than anything, she love being around her family. She was the total mom. During the children’s school days, she was always involved in the PTA and, of course, was a great home-maker. Cooking was another love, especially baking. Her homemade cinnamon rolls were the highlight of many family gatherings. And then there was music. She loved all kinds of music and loved to sing and play the piano. Mom had a strong religious faith and lived her life through Christ; teaching Sunday School, saying prayers for everyone she knew, and always helping others. She also was very artistic and in her 50’s took up ceramics. She was always making things for the family and ceramic Christmas Trees were our favorite. Marie is preceded in death by her husband, George, and her daughter, Helen Anneberg. She is survived by her son, Robert Johnston Oddny, daughter, Ginger Cameron, daughter, Carol McDade Bill, ten grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren. Her family will deeply miss her, but she will be fondly remembered for her love and devotion to her family, her beauty especially her hair, which was always perfect, her class and charm and a strong Christian faith. Remembrances can be made to Magnolia Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 27th at Magnolia Lutheran Church, 2414 – 31st Ave. W., Seattle. Please sign the online memorial at www.wiggenandsons.com.
