Obituary
April 2, 1932 – December 9, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marie Loken, a remarkable woman whose presence touched the lives of many. Born on April 2, 1932, in Seattle, Washington, Marie Loken lived a life filled with love, kindness, and dedication. She peacefully departed this world on December 9, 2023, coincidentally on her late husband’s birthday, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished.
Marie Loken was a devoted wife, having married her high school sweetheart, and their love story was one that inspired all who knew them. Though her husband preceded her in death, the bond they shared continued to shine brightly throughout Marie’s life.
Professionally, Marie found fulfillment in her role as a secretary in the Highline school district, where she impeccably coordinated the scheduling of substitute teachers for classrooms. Her commitment and attention to detail were not only admired by her colleagues, but also contributed to the smooth operation of the district, ensuring that students received an uninterrupted education.
In addition to her exceptional work, Marie selflessly gave of her time to volunteer at the local hospital, where her warm smile and compassionate nature brought solace and comfort to those in need. Her dedication to serving others embodied her genuine and loving spirit.
Beyond her professional and volunteer endeavors, Marie found solace and joy in tending to her beloved garden, particularly nurturing her exquisite rosebushes. The beauty that bloomed under her care mirrored the radiance she exuded throughout her life.
Marie’s devotion extended to her furry companion, a beloved pet terrier who brought endless joy and unconditional love into her home. Their bond was a testament to her nurturing and caring nature, providing her with companionship and comfort.
Marie Loken will be deeply missed by her surviving children, Debbie Soule, Denise Stanton, and David Loken, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her. As we gather to honor her memory, we reflect on the remarkable life she led and the profound impact she had on the lives of others.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and share in celebrating Marie’s life at the funeral service, which will be held in the New Year at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial Funeral Home in SeaTac, WA. In accordance with Marie’s wishes, her body will be cremated, and her final resting place will be near her husband, William, at Washington Memorial Cemetery.
During this time of mourning, let us remember Marie Loken’s remarkable character, her unwavering love and compassion, and the legacy she leaves behind. May her spirit continue to inspire us to live our lives with the same grace and joy that she embodied.
I worked as a substitute teacher in the Highline School District nearly fifty years ago and remember Marie Loken as a secretary there, and I liked the way that she did her job very much. More recently, in 2016 and 17, I had her as a neighbor at the retirement home where I am now living and remember a pet terrier that she had too. My condolences to her family for their loss.
