Obituary
Marie O. Powell passed peacefully from the loving embrace of her family on July 23rd, 2007. Born in Marcus, WA on August 28th, 1916 to Martha “Mattie” Peterson & Oscar M. Botts. Marie’s family lived in both Eastern WA & Northern Idaho, before settling in the Kent Valley in 1926. Marie was a graduate of Franklin High School & Business College, previous to her job as a bookkeeper for the WA State Department of Liquor Control. Marie devoted the remainder her life to her family after her marriage, August 18th, 1953, to her loving husband of 52 years, Thomas J. Powell. An Edmonds resident for over 45 years, Marie was an extremely popular scout leader, for both Boy and Girl Scout troops. An active member of the original Edmond’s Music and Art Club, Marie was often a capable host; entertaining guests who took pleasure in the artistic flair her beautifully decorated home & flower-filled gardens brought to many social gatherings. Marie had a great capacity for love, which extended beyond her own family to foreign exchange students from all over the world, many of whom remain in contact. Later years brought travel, fun-filled cruises and warm, sunny winters in AZ. Although Marie will be deeply missed, she will be fondly remembered for her tender heart and unfailing thoughtfulness to others. To her family, Marie was a precious gift, as she effortlessly managed her roles as wife, mother & grandmother. To her friends, she was a faithful friend, who could always be counted on for help, regardless of the circumstances. Those left to continue Marie’s legacy are: Her devoted husband; Thomas J. Powell, Daughter; Maureen Smith, Son; Russ Teri Powell, Daughter; Dolly David White. 8 Grandchildren; Sena Sprosky, Mariah Smith, Chris Powell, Jared Katie White, Kirsten Powell, Kelly Pat Brown, Keri Gary Powell-Grayson, & Thomas E. White. 3 Great-children; Keila, Jack & Eliot, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends near and far. To The Family of Mrs. Marie Ora Powell
I would like to express my deepest sympathy to each of you. Although we are not acquainted with one another, we are acquainted with the pain when our loved ones fall asleep in death.
Our Heavenly Father feels the pain that you are going through. When he created the first Man and Woman it was his purpose that they and their offspring including us live forever without the effects of sickness and death.
His purpose has not changed for he promises that the day is soon to come in which he will wipe away the tears of sorrow from our eyes forever and death will be no more.
He promises too that your loved ones, my loved ones and many others will hear his voice and come out of the memorial tombs graves.
Tom,it is with deep sadness that I am signing the Guest Book for my Aunt Marie. As you are at her service witht the rest of our family and friends, although I am here in Alaska I will have all of you in my prayers. The memories of Aunt Marie fill my heart with all the good times we have shared with in my life. Aunt Marie has passed on to me the love of nice things and the importance of family. I will miss her dearly. Lots and lots of hugs to all.
Gene sends his love along with mine.
