Obituary
Marie T. Sjodin, 98, passed away June 14, 2014 at Stafford Healthcare, Des Moines, Washington, with her family at her side.
Marie was born July 26, 1915 to Edward and Laura (Newman) Rassier in Hill City, Minnesota, where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1934. She married George G. Sjodin of Onamia, Minnesota on December 6, 1937 in Palmer, Alaska. Marie and George lived in Alaska for nine years, where their son and daughter were born. In 1946, the family moved to Olympia, Washington and lived there during their children’s school years. The family moved to Burien, Washington in 1961. Marie worked at Tritle’s Soap in Burien and Frederick and Nelson. George retired in 1973, and they travelled to Alaska and Minnesota in their RV and spent winters in Arizona. George passed away in 1996. Marie continued to live in the family home until 2012 when she moved to Stafford Healthcare.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her six siblings, her husband George and grandson Steven E. Sjodin. She is survived by son George E. (Lila) Sjodin of Olympia, daughter Jane M. Geer of Burien, grandchildren Ted (Ann) Sjodin, Marcy (Dan) McCorriston, Tom (Michelle) Geer, Debra Geer, Tanya (Michael) McGee, and great-grandchildren Colton, Morgan, Tiffany, Carrera, Grace, Jessica, Emily, Justin, Charlie, Molly and Finley.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Stafford Healthcare for the care they provided for Marie.
We were so saddened to hear of Marie’s passing. I thought of her every time I made lefse. I would like to be able to share some with both her and George sometime.
What a beautiful lady Marie was. She was always kind, warm and welcoming to the entire Lageson family.
