Obituary

August 18, 1936 – December 2, 2024

Marilyn Georgina (Hooper) Lomax passed away December 2, 2024, in Des Moines, WA.

Marilyn was born on August 18, 1936, to Bella Dick Buchan and Theodore William Hooper at Virgina Mason Hospital in Seattle, WA. She graduated from Lincoln High School.

In 1954 she married her high school sweetheart, Larry D Lomax, from rival Ballard High School. She packed up and drove their car to Jacksonville, FL, where he was serving in the Navy, to make their first home. They lived in Des Moines, WA, from 1962 on, enjoying the birds, squirrels, chipmunks and miscellaneous critters that would visit from The Woods behind the house.

Her career focused on making a wonderful home, life and activities with and for her family, although she was a whiz with numbers and a ten-key and fit in work as a bookkeeper for various retail businesses including People’s Department Store and Pay ‘n’ Save. She also worked as a Page and later continued to volunteer at the Des Moines, WA, Library – shelving literally tens of thousands of books, as well as checking out quite a few for herself, especially cozy mysteries!

Embracing her Scottish heritage, she played the tenor drums in the Tacoma Scots Pipe Band, and was an early and active member of Seattle Scottish Highland Games Association and the Tacoma Highland Games Association. She spent many hours over the years attending events, competing, and helping put on the dancing, piping, and drumming competitions that were enjoyed by her children and friends.

She loved watching football – a fan of the Seahawks from the start, and of Washington State University (Go Cougs!). She liked to read, garden, sew, square dance, and generally kept busy with family and relaxing.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Larry of Des Moines, WA; daughters Georgia Lomax of Sumner, WA, and Linda (Dan) Holverson of Coupeville, WA; grandsons Keith Haight of Coupeville, WA, and Jeffrey (Jamie) Haight of Presque Isle, ME; and nephew Robert (Judy) Hart of Brinnon, WA.

We love you and will always miss you!
