I was very saddened to learn of the passing on of Martha. I grew up in Seattle, WA and went to Hillman Covenant Church, where Martha attended. Her dad, Dean, was the pastor of our church for several years and her mom, Marie, was very active in children’s ministry at our church. She worked in the nursery and taught Sunday School classes. She was a wonderful, sweet, loving woman!
Martha and I were church friends and we lived quite near each other and saw each other at school. I graduated from Franklin High School too. I married and moved to Folsom, CA and have lived here for 39 years. Marti and I kept in touch through the years and when our family went up to Seattle to visit friends and relatives, we often visited Martha. The last few years, Marti and I would get together with another friend, Karen Zingmark, who used to be a former neighbor of Marti’s. We always enjoyed visiting and talking about our families and of course, about times past, our childhood, etc!
I was in Seattle the end of August and Marti, Karen and I were going to have a get-together on Sept. 7, but Marti called and said she didn’t feel well, so we didn’t have that last get-together. I was saddened to receive the news that Marti died.
I do know that Marti was a Christian and she now is in Heaven and the Bible says it’s a beautiful place and she is now with Jesus, and her parents and other loved ones, relatives and friends. She will be missed by her family and I do know she was so proud of them!!
When I talked to her on the phone the end of August, she told me she couldn’t get together with me because she was going to celebrate her son, David’s, birthday and then, she told me what a wonderful son he was!! She told me how helpful he was!! She also told me about her daughter Debbie and what a lovely young woman she was and also mentioned how helpful she was!! As her friend, I knew she didn’t have the energy and ability to do all the things she wanted to do since her brain hemmorhage, but she told me her family was very loving and helped her a lot and for that she was thankful!
I will miss our get-togethers, but will remember our times together and perhaps, I can meet Debbie and David someday.
My sympathy goes to Roger, Debbie and her husband, Dan, and also to Martha and Roger’s son, David.
Sincerely, Linda Elkins Ellis

My deepest sympathy to all of you for the sudden loss of Marti. She was a beautiful person with a loving and kind spirit. Words just cannot express my sadness for you all at this difficult time. Take time to grieve. Marti left a part of her spirit within all who knew and loved her. She was one of the rare souls who just loved others unconditionally. So glad I got to know and love her too. Dear Roger and family,
I came to know Marti through David and Jessica, and as we have all thrown a rock into the water and watched the ripple effects I have come to see how one person, Marti has shown kindness, love, generosity and a gentleness of spirit that has had multiple ripple effects throughout our community. I’m a better person having met and come to know just the little I knew of Marty Newton.
