MARTIN JEFFERY REILLY
MARTIN JEFFERY REILLY, passed away from congestive heart failure on January 27th, 2018 in the comfort of his own home, among the presence of his loving family.
Better known as Marty, or Superman, he was born January 19th, 1961 in Seattle, Washington. Being the youngest, he grew up with his two sisters and two brothers under the guidance of his parents John and Pat Reilly. He played a variety of sports growing up but was best at Pee Wee Baseball where he was coached by his dad. He attended Fairmount Park Elementary school, followed by Boren Middle School, and graduated from Chief Sealth High School in 1979.
After High School he took classes at Community College and worked around cars and tires for a few years until he joined Gary Darling at Mastercraft Electric and trained to become a Journeyman Electrician. He continued as an Electrician for many years, later emphasizing his skills on estimating projects, and he continued to be an employee of Mastercraft Electric until his passing.
He was married in 1990 to Dalyce Reilly and had two children, Andy (1991) and Chris (1995). They lived in the Arbor Heights area until the Andy and Chris moved off to go to college. Marty eventually moved to Normandy Park in 2012, where he remained until his passing.
Marty’s favorite hobbies were golfing, fishing, writing, and watching the Seahawks or Mariners. He achieved the glorious Hole in One at McCormick’s Woods Golf Course on the 17th hole and caught a trophy steelhead, his first, from the Thompson River which he had stuffed and hung on his wall. He enjoyed gambling and focused mainly on craps and Horse Racing when he had the opportunity. He is the author of four unpublished novels. He loved traveling, making sure to go to a new destination every year from charter fishing in Cabo to visiting 18 of the 30 Major League baseball stadiums.
Marty faced many adversities in his lifetime, but the thing that made him so unique was how impossible he made it for anything to take him down. He always referred to himself as the Northwest Superman and the story of his life made that nickname ever so true. Although he spent 23 years of life in a wheelchair, he lived life to its fullest, doing crazier things than the normal person, and not letting anything hold him back. These included Paragliding off of Cougar Mountain, deep sea salmon fishing yearly in Westport, Washington, embarking on multiple week long road trips to visit Baseball Stadiums and tour Canada and the USA, drifting around a track as the passenger in a Corvette, petting the President’s dog, organizing fundraisers for the Spinal Cord Society, and commissioning his yearly NFL pool (which he won this year!).
Marty’s story and life will be continued by his large number of family and friends. Marty is survived by his two sons, Andy and Chris, his father, John, sister Michelle and her husband Carl, brothers Mike, Mark and his wife Sandy, nieces, nephews and 1 great nephew . He joins his mother, Patricia and sister Molly in heaven.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Marty at the Normandy Park Community Club at the Cove in Normandy Park. This will be held on Sunday February 25th, 2018.
