Mary Katherine Owen, age 98, passed away on June 14, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way, Washington. She lived at the Madrona Park Apartments near Steel Lake. Mary was born in Shelburne, Indiana to Andrew and Agnes Rambis. Mary was a very loving mother, wife, and homemaker. She will be missed forever. Mary was from a family of three sisters and nine brothers. She grew up on a farm in southwestern Indiana. All nine brothers served in the armed forces during World War II. Mary was the last surviving member of her family. Mary’s second husband, Clifford Lawrence Owen, age 91, passed away on June 28, 2010. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
When Mary was 20 years old, she decided to leave the farm life of Indiana. She boarded a train and headed west toward Nevada. On the train, she met her first husband, William Kildea Healy, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. William (Bill) had worked for the Idaho Department of Transportation as a mechanic and was now driving a Greyhound bus between Las Vegas, Nevada and Cedar City, Utah. Mary and Bill were married in Los Angeles, California in December 1941. Bill took a job with General Motors Corporation and was transferred to Phoenix, Arizona. They moved to Fresno, California in 1945. Bill was a regional sales manager for General Motors heavy duty trucks. The marriage ended in divorce in 1950.
On September 18, 1952, Mary entered holy matrimony with Clifford Owen. They were married in a Methodist Church on Clinton Avenue in Fresno, California. Cliff worked for Rodman Chevrolet. He was employed as a service-salesman. In 1975 Mary and Cliff moved to the Seattle, Washington area and settled in Auburn near Federal Way. They both loved the cooler weather and the great northwest.
Mary is survived by her two sons: Patrick Joseph Healy, Virginia, daughter-in-law, Madgalene Carol Healy, of Stafford, Virginia and James Graham Healy, daughter-in-law, Laura Jane Healy, of Fresno, California. Mary had four grandchildren: Michael Patrick Healy, Gregory Patrick Healy, Jaclyn Marie Healy, and Dana Healy. Mary’s two great-grand children are Ryan Michael Healy, age 10, and Caden Healy age 4. Ryan and Caden are the sons of Michael and Jennifer Healy.
On June 27, Mary was buried near her husband, Clifford Owen, in Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington. The Bonney-Watson Federal Way Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
