Obituary

On October 21, 2010 in Seattle, WA at Virginia Mason Hospital Maurice Jones Sr. passed away from natural causes. Born in Kilgore, Texas on May 13, 1923, he was the son of a farmer and preacher. He attended college in Texas. He was inducted in the U.S. Army in January 1943 and fought bravely in World War II as an ammunition specialist while stationed in Rhineland in central Europe. Mr. Jones Sr. received an honorable discharge on March 9, 1946. He received 2 bronze stars, 2 victory medals and a good conduct medal while serving his country.
Soon after leaving the army he met the love of his life Mamie Lue Johnson and married her on October 8, 1946. The two lived a long and happy life together until his wife passed away in 1998. Mr. Jones Sr. was a carpenter in his early years. Then, he worked for many years at the US postal service. He then worked in the engineering department for the City of Seattle.
Mr. Jones Sr. was also an entrepreneur and he owned his own business, the world famous ‘Jones Barber Shop’ which was a popular spot in the Central Area Neighborhood of Seattle for old and young. He loved the popular music of his time, he loved to garden and he had a wonderful sense of humor. He is survived by his five children, Jeannie Marie Robison, Maurice Jones Jr., Sylvester Jones, Charles E. Jones and Mary Pitts. Maurice Jones Sr.’s legacy lives on through his 13 grandchildren and 21 great
grandchildren
