Obituary
Maxine Mable Tarli
Maxine Mable Tarli was born June 17, 1924 in Bellingham, Washington to George and Pearl Rogers. She passed away peacefully December 28, 2012 in Tacoma, Washington at the age of 88 years.
Maxine met Philip Tarli at a dance hall in Seattle in 1946 right after the war. They were married October 16, 1948 at St. Mary’s Church in Seattle, Washington. They enjoyed dancing throughout the years together, and they did it well.
Maxine worked at Woolworth’s for 21 years. Early on she worked as a waitress on the lunch counter and later worked in the office doing the store payroll, until she retired in 1987. After retiring, Maxine and Philip sold the family home in Renton, Washington, and moved to Federal Way, Washington where they spent most of their retirement years. During that time they did some traveling and enjoyed their family.
Maxine was an excellent cook. Some of the family’s favorite dishes were potato salad, baked chicken, scallop potatoes, and Salisbury steak. She loved a good mystery, whether it be a book, television show, or movie. She was an avid fan of the Murder She Wrote TV series. Maxine and Philip enjoyed the many family gatherings they hosted in their home that included home cooked meals and playing poker.
The last few years of Maxine’s life were slowly taken away from her by Alzheimer’s, although it never took away the lovely smile and laughter that she had. So often she would talk of going home. She is now at peace and has been reunited with her family in heaven.
Maxine is survived by her husband of 64 years, Philip Tarli, their four children, Thomas and his wife Rebecca Tarli, Theresa Tarli, Philip and his wife Sandy Tarli, and Dennis and his wife Kathy Tarli, Maxine’s eldest sister, Lenore Mattei, ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and another great-grandson soon-to-arrive, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service for Maxine will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 1:00pm at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial, 16445 International Blvd. SeaTac, WA 98188.
Memorials may be made in Maxine’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association,

“Death leaves A Heart ache no one can feel
Love leaves A memory no one can steal”
Aunt Maxine, a beautiful woman inside and out. Saturdays spent at Aunt Maxine and Uncle Phil’s house when I was young will always be a extra special memory to me. Who else but my aunt would allow us to bang on the drum they had in the kids bedroom for hours on end without even once asking us to stop. Just thinking about the noise now gives me a headache. She always fixed a special dinner. Those whipped mashed potatoes of hers……..oh yum!!!
Aunt Maxine, I’ll miss you, I’ll miss our talks, your kindness and your beautiful smile.
Let the Angels wrap their wings gently around you. You are fee now, free to laugh and play and be with your family. I love you……….Angie
I had the honor of working with Maxine for many years. Several of those years I was her supervisor. Maxine was a hard, diligent worker. Loyal and honest. Second to her family she devoted her time to her job. Phil, I know you and your family will truly miss this great lady who I feel honored to have known. Barbara Cannon
Dear Tarli Family,
Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. May you find comfort in your loving memories, and in knowing that God is “near to those that are broken at heart; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.” (Psalm 34;18) Our loving Creator has promised to soon “swallow up death forever and wipe the tears from all faces.” (Isaiah 25; 8) With deepest sympathy,
