Melvin N. BANKS

Born December 25, 1928, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2006. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn Banks; daughters Sally and Sandy; brothers Donald, John, Carray and Joe; sisters Virginia, Lovie, Effie, Dorothy and Katherine; 9 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Euzella Carvar Banks and father John Banks, brothers Dasal and Crosby and sister Marylizzi.

He never hesitated when it came to helping his family and friends. Melvin enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He loved watching sports and staying up to the wee hours of the morning listening to talk radio shows with his wife Evelyn.

Melvin joined the Coast Guard in 1945 at the age of 17 and retired on April 1, 1966. He took pride in serving his country for 20 years and wore his uniform proudly.

Melvin will leave behind many family and friends and will be dearly missed.

Viewing, 12 Noon to 8:00 PM, Monday, 1/23, and Tuesday, 1 hour prior to the service. Funeral service, 10:00 AM, Tuesday, January 24, 2006 both at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 16445 International Blvd., SeaTac. Committal service will follow at 12:30 PM at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th, Kent. Reception and celebration of Melvin’s life will follow the committal service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Melvin’s memory.

We really enjoyed having Mr. Banks as a player at our Bingo Hall. He will be very deeply missed by the Seattle Jaycee Bingo Hall Staff
