Obituary

Michael J. McCarthy was born on July 4, 1931, in Seattle, Washington. He was reunited with his Lord on January 7, 2024 with his loving family at his side. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kathleen (Fagan) McCarthy, his four children, Michele Toulouse (Patrick), Carrol Weaver (James), Erin Gregory (Michael), Daniel McCarthy (Karen) and, 9 grandchildren, Ryan Ramondetta (Bridget), Michael F. McCarthy, Rachel Ramondetta, Jess Weaver, Abigail Gregory, Megan McCarthy, Julia Weaver, Joseph Gregory, Madison McCarthy, and step granddaughter Kylah Tuazon.

Michael Attended Seattle University where he met Kathleen. They were married in 1959 and shortly thereafter he entered his required Military Service. He achieved the rank of Army Captain and was honorably discharged in 1971. He and Kathleen lived nearly fifty years in the family home on Queen Anne Hill and were parishioners at St. Anne Parish. Michael was a career merchant seaman and worked for various maritime companies which were local to the Puget Sound area though his favorite was as a deck officer with the Washington State Ferry System in the late 70’s and early 80’s.

Michael’s hobbies included travel, chess and backgammon. He was a history buff and avidly read historical non-fiction. He was a champion marksman and an outstanding dancer. By far his family remained his most dearly held joy, and he was especially devoted to his wife Kathleen.

Funeral Services

Michael’s Rosary will be held in the Holy Family Chapel at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church at 3:30PM on January 31, 2024.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM on February 1, 2024 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Cemetery Service will be held at 1:00PM on February 2, 2024 at Calvary Cemetery in Seattle, WA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Disabled American Veterans or The American Heart Association.

So sorry to hear about Mr. McCarthy. I lived across the alley on Queen Anne Hill over 30 years. He was an exuberant presence and a wonderful neighbor.
