Obituary
Michael James Lowther passed away peacefully on the morning of February 13th at the age of 75. Mike was born in Boise, ID, but spent most of his childhood living in San Antonio, Texas. He loved the theater and had starring roles in many school plays. He moved with his family to Mountlake Terrace when he was a senior in high school. It was there he met Lois, during a rehearsal of “Our Town” where he played the lead role of the narrator. After graduation, Mike served in the Navy. He and Lois were married in 1969. During those early years, they did lots of camping and hiking with their dog, Siddhartha.
Mike attended Shoreline Community College and then UW, where he majored in technical theater and art history, working towards his doctorate. He taught at Purdue in Lafayette, IN and then joined the Army where he was stationed in Pacific Grove, CA.
He left the Army and came back to Seattle where he joined IATSE Local 15 and worked for many years as a stagehand – both locally and with touring productions including Annie, Evita, Dreamgirls, and Jesus Christ Superstar.
When Mike wasn’t on the road he became “Mr. Mom” – doing all the cooking and taking care of son Michael and his best friend after school. Later, during Michael’s HS years, he was very involved in supporting Michael’s Lacrosse team. He hired buses, bought uniforms and attended all games here and away.
Mike will be remembered for his booming laugh, generous spirit and once in awhile throwing his hammer! Per his wishes, his ashes will be scattered at sea.
Mike was a good man worked with him many times
He was an awesome man. As cousins, we didn’t get to spend a lot of time together but the times we did, were always fun times. He will be missed.
I am sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. Sending much love you all.

Mike was a great guy. I toured with him on a couple of shows ( Annie and Jesus Christ Superstar), and when I was in Seattle, he was on the crew. It’s been about 43 years since the ‘Annie’ Days. I have a lot of memories of those days. RIP Mike!
My deepest condolences to Kevin and the family. I am so very sorry for your loss.
Prayers for all of you during this grieving period.
I will always remember Mike’s generosity and willingness to teach those of us who were new to the theater in the very early years. Many times I saw Mike freely give away precious knowledge.
