I was one of Mr. McD’s students in his band class at Shadow Lake Elementary. He was like Mohamed Ali to me he was the greatest and will always be the greatest. I wish I would have got the chance to say thank you to him, I wish I had the chance to say a lot of things I am thankful for that he has done for me. But I would like to say thank you for onething that i remember he did do for me,adn that is,him leading me into the right direction in my life and helping me decide what I wanted to become. I will never forget it. Everyone will miss him, but especially by me. I’ll miss you Mr. McD. Thank You!
You are truly the greatest.

I remember “Mr. McDaniels” fondly from my days in band at Showalter Jr. High. How he could put up with 80 or so junior high kids screeching on their instruments at one time was amazing. I’m sorry he’s gone. He was a good guy.
To a kindred Foster HS/CWU Alum, fellow musician and teacher, one-time roommate at UW summer music camp 1962, and house guest for a week at Birch Bay circa 1978 goodbye, friend. The world will miss you. My thoughts have been with you and your family as I learned of your passing this past Thursday March 10. Holly Bertran
25 years of a dear neighbor
there are many many fond
memories.
Like everyone else we were shocked and deeply saddened by Mike’s death. We have lost a very talented musician and wonderful teacher. But, I am glad he was blessed all these years with this warm Swedish family and a mother who sings one of my favorite Happy Birthday renditions in Swedish. God bless you Edith, Miles, Steven, Amy and Melissa.
We have many memories of Mike. When we think of him we think of his music and how much we enjoyed listening.
Mike made beginning band students sound like they’d played for years. He took pride in student achievement as well as his own professional growth. I admired his forthright honesty.
We were shocked to here about Mike. We saw him just a few months ago and Phil had dinner with him about 6 months ago. We have known Mike, Miles,Edith and Bob since 1986 from car racing. Mike was a good man to know. Always kind and a devoted father and son. Miles and Edith, our hearts go out to you both. We know what you are going through. We know how hard it is going to be. Just remember that you have a lot of friends out there who care about you.
I was the choir director at Foster from 1963-1965. I remember Mike as a wonderful musician in Roland Schanzenbach’s band. As a fellow music educator, I know that his passing is a great loss to the profession.
I was shocked and very saddened at the news of Mike’s death. I have known him and his family since 1987. We originally met at the racetrack with my friend Michael “the Biggest Dumpty” Mike was a great bloke to be around, very welcoming and wonderful to his friends. Since my return to Australia in 2002, my friends have never been far from my mind..and never moreso than now. My thoughts and prayers go with Miles you were just a little tyke when I met you and his family, as you comes to terms with the loss of a good man.

I was so shocked this morning to read of Mike’s death. Even though I had not
talked to Mike for many years I will miss his presence in this world. My thoughts are with you Edith and also with Steve and his family and Mike’s son Miles. Today I will play the old Foster band record and remember Mike fondly.
I had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Mike through H&R Block. I was saddened to hear of his death and my sympathies extend to his family and friends. We had many common music acquaintances and I enjoyed hearing of his recent performances. He will be greatly missed.
Mike, You taught me how to play the trumpet and to love it. Your son is one of my best friends. I will always remember your love for music and your love for cars. God Bless you!
Edith,
I am so sorry to hear about Michael’s death. I can’t begin to imagine how hard it is to loose a child.
