Milo (Papa Pete) Arnold Peterson, 95, of Des Moines, WA passed away Sunday October 1, 2017. He was born September 24, 1922 to Martin and Agnes Peterson in Alberta, Canada. The oldest of 4 children, he and his family grew up in Kent, WA.
After graduating high school in 1940, Milo joined the United States Navy and was a blimp pilot in the Lighter than Air program, earning the rank of Lieutenant and honorably discharging in 1946.
Following military service, he met the love of his life Audrey Anne Garvie of Abilene, KS. Milo and Audrey were married on September 20, 1947 and were fortunate to celebrate 70 happy years of marriage before his passing.
Milo earned a Bachelor degree in Forestry from the University of Washington in 1950 and was a member of Xi Sigma Pi Fraternity. His career in forestry and lumber trades took the family to Texas where they spent 10 years and forged lifelong friends in Wharton, Houston and New Braunfels. Ultimately, family ties brought the family back to Seattle where Milo spent many years in aeronautical materials procurement at Boeing and ultimately retiring from General Plastics Manufacturing in Tacoma where he was dearly loved.
A lifetime of family memories were made at the family home along the shores of Puget Sound near Three Tree Point. We will always remember walks on the beach, amazing sunsets, Milo’s love of salmon fishing and his world renowned slow baked salmon over a smoky beach fire.
Papa Pete was a man of GOD. A family man who will be deeply missed by his wife of 70 years Audrey, children Susan Olson of Auburn, WA, Raelene (Greg) Sutherland of Puyallup, WA and Jay (Cindy) Peterson of Lakewood, WA, 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, his church family of 56 years at The Lutheran Church of the Atonement, his Bible Study Fellowship family and numerous friends and acquaintances.
Funeral Services will be held on October 20th at 12:30 PM, The Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 740 S 128th St, Burien, WA 98168. Reception to follow in the church fellowship hall; followed by burial at Washington Memorial Cemetery, 16445 International Blvd, SeaTac 98188 In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Lutheran Church of the Atonement.
I enjoyed working with and getting to know Milo. He was a bright spot at General Plastics. Audrey, Leslie joins me in saying how very sorry we are for your loss.
