Monica Kay Desimone

November 24, 1976 – June 8, 2025

Mother • Daughter • Sister • Friend

Monica Kay Desimone, a devoted mother to Emma (22) and Ava (20), passed away on June 8, 2025, at the age of 48. Born in Seattle to Mark and Sue Desimone, Monica spent her life in the Puget Sound area, where she built a life full of love, strength, and purpose.

She attended Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Bernadette elementary schools before graduating from John F. Kennedy High School, where she stood out both academically and as a volleyball and track star. Monica earned her degree in accounting from Seattle University, and began her career in accounting and finance, quickly excelling in her field. She settled in Auburn, where she raised her two beloved daughters.

As the eldest of four siblings, she was a natural leader—confident, determined, and always ready to lift others up. She had a gift for helping people recognize their own potential, offering both encouragement and practical support. A real boss babe with a big heart.

Her devotion to family was unwavering. She was extremely close with her parents who shared her love of watching the kids play sports and spoiling all of the family dogs. She inherited her father’s quick wit and her mother’s boundless love. To her siblings, Monica was the trailblazer, the peacemaker, and the glue that held them together.

It was in motherhood that Monica truly shined. She poured her heart into raising Emma and Ava, attending every dance recital, volleyball game, and school event with pride and enthusiasm. Weekdays were filled with work, school pickups, and practices; weekends were for cheering from the front row and sharing adventures. From Disneyland trips to Alaskan cruises and beach getaways in Cape Cod and Hawaii, Monica created a lifetime of memories with her girls.

Her legacy lives on in Emma and Ava, who embody the best of her. Emma carries Monica’s calm strength and compassion, while Ava reflects her fierce determination and confidence. Both share her eye for beauty and sense of style, and most importantly, her kindness, courage, and brilliance.

Monica forged deep, caring friendships, many of which began in childhood and grew stronger as they raised their families together. She was known for her grace, dignity, and unwavering sense of self. Even in her battle with cancer, Monica faced each day with courage, doing things her own way—with faith, strength, grace, and love for those around her.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Guerino and Susan Desimone, Lorenzo and Emma Foster; her uncle Jim Foster; and her dogs, Lucky, Vegas, Sadie, and Patches. She is survived by her daughters, Emma and Ava Colello; her parents, Mark and Sue Desimone; her siblings, Mark, Andrea, and Jeff Desimone; and her cherished dogs, Poppy and Isla—affectionately known as “the Muppets.”

Monica’s Celebration of Life will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Burien on Saturday June 21st, with mass at 11:00 am followed by a reception in the school hall. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Monica’s name to the ASPCA, the American Cancer Society, or a charity that is dear to your heart.

Such an unbelievable loss of such a high energy, bright, passionate, generous, and just a lovely human being. She was a force to be reckoned with and helped launch the careers of so many. She was my friend and confidante, and we spent so much time laughing . Spending time with a group of co workers after work we learned so much..
How hard and long a person could laugh, and how much love the human heart can hold. I will miss my friend forever….. she was an enigma and loved by so many.
