MORRIS E. NELSON

Born September 29, 1911 on the farm near Grandy, Minnesota. He passed away in Bellingham, Washington on August 17, 2003. An orphan at age 4, Morris Nelson moved to Seattle from Minnesota in 1918 with his aunt and uncle, Fred and Agnes Jacobsen in a 1915 Model T Ford. Beacon Hill would be his home for the next 75 years. Morris learned how to golf by caddying at the Jefferson Park Golf Course beginning at age 11. He was a member of the first graduating class of Cleveland High School in 1929 and was a four year letterman in golf. On September 6th 1932 he married Margarette King. They were active members of the Georgetown Presbyterian Church and the New Hope Presbyterian Church where they each taught Sunday School for over 50 years. The twinkle in his eyes always brightened with a round of golf. Morrie was a member of the Beacon Hill Golf Club at Jefferson Park, walking more than the distance around the world in his years of playing there. Morris and Margaret had one child, David Nelson, born in 1949. Morris worked as an accountant at for the National Seafood Processors Association, retiring in 1983 at age 72. Following Margarette’s death in 1993, Morris moved to Bellingham, Washington to be closer to his family. After moving to Bellingham he met Margaret Haugo and married her on September 25, 1994. They enjoyed almost nine years of married life together at the Parkway Chateau Retirement Residence and regularly attended First Presbyterian and Central Lutheran Churches. We remember Morris for his kind and gentle spirit, his love of the Lord, and his generosity to others. Morris is survived by his wife Margaret Haugo Nelson, his son David M. Nelson, daughter-in-law M. Lynne Nelson, and grandchildren Jonathan D. Nelson of San Diego, Janelle L. Nelson of Chicago, and Andrew and Daniel Nelson of Bellingham.
