Myrtle Bossett passed away at age 91 on Wednesday, October 26. She was born May 9, 1920 in Fresno, California – the third of five children born to Myrtle and Robert Perkins. Tomi, as she was fondly called by family and friends, graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane, Washington. In the 1940s, the family moved to Seattle.

In her early years, Myrtle worked at Gideon’s Drug Store at 22nd and Madison and at Providence Hospital. Most of her years of employment were spent at the Seattle Tennis Club. Always facile with numbers, Myrtle took night classes to develop her accounting skills and finished her career at STC in the accounting office. For a short time after retiring from the Tennis Club, she worked for the US Census Bureau and as a tester FAME Head Start programs.
Myrtle was active in a variety of community service organizations, serving as president of the Horace Mann Elementary School PTA and as a leader of Brownie and Girl Scout troops. She was a dedicated member of Seattle’s First AME Church, where she participated in missionary service and taught Sunday school to countless children for more than four decades. She was also a member of the Mt. Rainier Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Myrtle will be most remembered for her tireless devotion and tremendous love for her family.

She is survived by her brother, Colonel John Perkins (USAF, retired) and his wife Carolyn “June” of Stockton, CA; children, Robert Flowers (Micki), Elaine Seay Davis, Patricia Seay, all of Seattle, and Carolyn Grazzette Alexander (Eric) of Atlanta, GA. To Myrtle’s family – Please know that you are in my prayers. Your mom was so in love with all of you, children and grandchildren. I know she’s watching you from her new home (smiles) and her care and concerns stay with you. Stay in prayer and God will take care of you!
