Obituary
Nancy Carlson Winchell, Federal Way, passed away on November 30th, 2019, after a long illness at the age of 96. Nancy was born Nancy Arlene Garber on July 23, 1923 to John and Josephine Garber. Nancy is survived by her son, Melvin R. Carlson. Preceded in death by her first husband, Melvin G. Carlson, and by her second husband, William (Bill) Winchell.
Nancy was a longtime resident of Federal Way and was an active member of Eastern Star. She lived for many years in Belmor Mobile Home Park, where she had numerous friends.
She was an excellent golfer, winning several local golf tournaments, and she sewed with professional expertise. She sewed many clothes for herself and her family, and also crocheted. Nancy was also an excellent card player and enjoyed various games, such as bingo.
Nancy loved to travel and flew all over the world, visiting various countries such as Russia, China, Japan and Europe. She also took many cruises to various countries, as well as a thorough tour of the United States. She had a map with pins denoting every country she visited in the world, which was most of them.
Nancy was loved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Nancy was truly and will remain an inspiration to many. She was a true friend, a loving parent and grandparent. A genuine, “can do” and “get it done” neatly and timely person with many talents. She liked to Bless people with delicious dinners served on tables dressed with seasonal decor; sew for her loved ones; challenge the wit of her friends and show her skill in fun on the golf course.
Nancy was a loving wife to my Grandfather Bill Winchell. When Nancy joined our family she made an extra effort to get to know each one of us individually, making sure that her relationship with each of us was truly meaningful. This was not an easy task as we were already a family with Grandpa’s 5 adult children, 11 grandchildren, and more future grandchildren and great grandchildren to come. Nancy will always have a special place in our hearts and in our family. May her memory be a Blessing to all who knew her.
