Nikolaos Flemetakis
December 22, 1917 – October 18, 2014
Nikolaos Flemetakis was born in Vamos, Crete in Greece to George and Aphrodite Flemetakis. In his early life, he served in the Greek army and fought for his country in WWII. Nikolaos endured battle wounds during war that left shrapnel in his body permanently. He immigrated to the United States at a late stage in life, worked in various jobs to support his family, and even learned to drive. He devoted his life to working and caring for his family alongside his late wife, Maria Flemetakis, who passed away just last year.
His hobbies included taking care of his grandchildren, gardening, and working in his shed. He enjoyed camping and smelt fishing along the Washington State coastline and being a part of the Greek community in Seattle.
Nikolaos was a devoted Greek Orthodox Christian who attended church regularly and spent some time as a chanter in his parish in Greece.
Nikolaos is survived by one brother, Evstratios (Stratis) in Greece, and his four children: son George (Maria), son Emmanuel (Georgia), son Paul (Sophia), and daughter Stella (Elias), nine grandchildren: Nikolaos (Melizza), Christos (Kelly), Maria (Keith), Nikolaos, Demetrios, Andreas, Maria (Taylor), Nikolaos, and Demetre, and six great grandchildren: Emmanuel, Antonia, Maria, Stefan, George and Farah, and a seventh on the way.
The Trisagion and viewing will be held at Bonney-Watson Funeral Home on Capitol Hill (1732 Broadway, Seattle WA 98122) on Wednesday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, October 23 at Noon at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption (1804 13th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98122) followed by the interment service at Evergreen Washelli Memorial Park (11111 Aurora Avenue, Seattle, WA 98133).
Flowers in memory of Mr. Flemetakis may be sent to BONNEY-WATSON Capitol Hill, prior to the Trisagion Service by 5:00 pm on Wednesday or to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption by 11:00 am on Thursday.
