To the Lois and the Barshinger Family:
I would like to extend my sincere condolences and prayers for all of you. Niles worked for me as a Security Supervisor in Seattle. During this period we became good friends and confidants. I was retired Army. We often needled one another fondly about our sister services. The one thing we had in common was the need to take care of the people who worked for us. Niles touched our hearts in so many ways with his even temperament and funny sayings. Niles was a really great person to be around. I can collectively speak for the people who worked with Niles. We were all better off knowing him because of the caliber of caring person he was to everyone. God Bless you Lois Barshinger for allowing us to share him with you. Niles will surely be missed by all. Your in God’s hands now Niles. God Bless you.
Jack

I was so sorry to hear of Niles’ passing. He was a security guard here at The Seattle Times and one of the nicest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. He was kind, helpful and always went out of his way to make everyone’s day brighter. I’m very sorry you have lost your loved one. May your memories of him help ease the pain. Sincerely…..
It’s always difficult to express meaningful words when something as profound as a friend passing is the issue. But we are all just mere mortals and meager words are all that most of us have. Those that were closest to Niles are the only ones that can truly feel the depth of his loss. But know this, ALL of us that knew him, are just a little bit richer for having known him.
Lois, I knew Niles form our recruiting days. Always a smile and easy to talk to. I am very sorry for you loss but know he is in a much better place. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family most especially during this time of sorrow.
Niles will always be remembered as one of “the good guys”…even for an Aerial Porter. As a Recruiter, he was one of the best!!! Even tempered and smooth, the only time you could tell he was in distress was when his face would turn red from the pain of biting his tongue. Fond memories Niles…we will miss you greatly. The world was a better place with you, but heaven is even better now that you’re there!!!
Niles, an all-around great guy.
Hi Lois,
My Name is Michael A. Boutte, Sr. I had the privilege to call Niles my friend. I worked with him at The Seattle Times. He tough me to honestly care about helping people. His love for doing a good job showed me how to be a better supervisor and to go the extra mile. He did not ask anyone to do anything that he would not do himself. I will never forget his bright smile, jolly laugh, and upbeat personality in even the most difficult situations. One of his favorite sayings in situations where he could not divulge confidential information was “My attorney has advised me to take the Fifth on that question and then drink it.” That would crack me up and help to diffuse tense situations. Though I will miss him a lot. I rest in knowing I will see him again when I have the honor to be called home by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Thank You for sharing him with me. I am bless to call him my friend.
Michael A. Boutte, Sr.
I have been so blest to know Niles and Lois, for these past several years of my life. Niles could always make any situation seem not so bad and could turn it into a possitive. I hope I am lucky enough to see him agin some day.
Peace and love
