Nimia C. Hunter

August 14, 1937 – July 23, 2023

Nimia C. Hunter was born August 14, 1937 in Cabalian, Leyte in the Philippines to Macario and Epifania Caesar.  She was the next to the youngest child in a combined family of 13 members.  She is the last member to pass on to heaven from this family. She passed away unexpectedly on July 23, 2023. Her family apologizes for the late posting of her passing.

Her father collaborated with General Douglas MacArthur when he was in the Philippines during World War II.  She noticed the kindness the American soldiers bestowed upon the local children as they handed out pieces of chocolate.  She decided then and there that she would move to America when she grew up! Chocolate is the best thing ever, right?!

She married Melvin S. Hunter in 1963 in Honolulu, Hawaii and they lived in Seattle, Washington. Unfortunately, she became widowed in 1979 and had to single-handedly raise her two children.

Nimia was an avid reader, writer and adventurer who loved to travel and to take lots of pictures. She was full of energy, always laughing and had an optimistic, sunny disposition. She loved all kinds of people, especially her children, relatives, friends and co-workers. She worked for Key Bank for many years and she retired early from there as a Bank Statement Manager.

She loved music, singing, dancing and watching old movies (because they were the best kind!). She enjoyed cooking for the entire neighborhood, writing letters to family and friends around the world and chatting on her cell phone for hours. She loved collecting things, everything from seashells to shoes!

Nimia loved fashion and all kinds of colors! This was reflected in the fact that she was dressed to the nines every day, even when she stepped out to get the mail. It was important to her to look presentable at all times.

She is survived by her son, Russell M. Hunter (Barbara), her daughter, Nimia J Hunter-Velez (Jose), step-granddaughter, Krystin McMahon, step-great-grandson, Grayson Cooper as well as many beloved nieces, nephews  and cousins.  She was the best mother and friend to all. She will be missed tremendously!
