Nina Ann Taylor
March 2nd, 1928, Nina was born into her North Dakota Farm Family north of Appam. She was the 9th child of a family that grew to a total of 15 including her Mom and Dad. There were 13 kids, 4 boys and 9 girls. In those days there were no phones and the nearest Doctor was in town some 20 miles away so the kids were all born at home with the help of a neighbor mid-wife and the older girls would help too. During the long winter on school days her Dad would hitch up a horse to a covered wagon with a small wooden stove inside to keep the kids warm. They’d pick up some other kids along the way to the Appam school house. There Dad would wait and then make the trip home after school. In the summers there was plenty of work on the farm growing a garden and milking the cows. After all there weren’t any grocery stores near by. Nina’s dad did eventually own a General Store in Appam where the local farmers could pick up needed supplies occasionally.
Nina graduated from Williston High School on May 29th, 1945. After her graduation from high school she went to Trinity Hospital School of Nursing in Minot, North Dakota where she received her Registered Nurse degree on September 16th, 1948.
She met the love of her life Louis Grant Taylor while in Minot. They became man and wife on February 26th, 1949. Louie and Nina had their 1st child on December 7th, 1949. Louis Keith was born in Madison, Wisconsin where Louie was studying Electrical Engineering. They moved briefly to the East Coast while Louie was in the Navy but then moved to Washington after Louie received a job from Boeing. Two more children were born in Renton Hospital which now is Mclendon Hardware. Mark Oliver was born in October 1952 and Karen Marie two years later in September 1954. Nina stayed home until the Kids were school age and then she took a job also with Boeing as an RN.
Louis and Nina both retired from Boeing and settled into their new home in Normandy Park. They enjoyed their retirement years traveling on an occasional vacation somewhere and always visiting friends both at their home and away. Nina did some volunteer work too. She might have been one of the Nurses you spoke with if you called the “Call a Nurse” telephone line at Highline Hospital in Burien sometime.
Later in life she developed Parkinsons but with some medication was able to continue living at home with some help. The last several years Nina has had her Granddaughter living with her who was able to help her Grandma when needed. Nina also had Irena from Andel Care who helped three days a week too.
Nina is survived by her son Keith and his wife Connie, her Granddaughter Karen, and her Great Grandson Julian.

Aunt Nina will be missed. She has always been a part of my life since I can remember. The 3 families – the Taylors, the Sorensens and the Tuskis – along with the Canadian Cousins, Oliver, Edna and Signe Holm from Vancouver BC would gather together on the holidays at one of their homes on a rotating basis. What fun we would have! I am grateful to have been able to visit with Aunt Nina these past years with my mom.

I am sorry to hear of Aunt Nina’s passing. While I have not been in close contact with the family, I do have some very special memories of Aunt Nina and Uncle Louie. My condolences and heartfelt good wishes to you.
Thank you for sending me this letter! I’m terribly sorry about the family loss, Nina was a great person. I always had sympathy for Nina and took care of her as if she was my own grandmother. My hard work comes from my heart, and each shift for nearly 5 years, I did my best so she could live longer and be comfortable. I’m really sorry that Nina is no longer with us, and I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the family. Nina was so lovely, warm, and kind; we will all miss her.
